:girlsad3: To me @ the BB nest, it looks as if it might be stringer line for fish. Someone on chat said it could be leader line. There's also braided line for fishing. Regardless, it's unfortunate!!

I knew this nest looks different, but it just dawned on me while I was watching Mrs. BB attempting to get on the nestbowl!! Why did the BB'S build this nest with the railing/sticks all the way up to the border of the nest bowl? ( I think it gives the nest a rugged, western-look!! :teehee:) I am used to watching southern nests of eagles, is this what they do in areas likely to get snow, so they have something to grab onto and not slip or slide???

The head and gills are completely eaten off and I believe the cord is no longer anchored to the fish. Mrs. BB has made attempts to remove the cord and cover it with nesting material, but it is still visible.
In the afternoon sun, the color looks to be a shade of blue between light and medium now.

Here it is, Bev. Hard to see without direct sunlight. It is just above the coot that is located to the right of the nestbowl.

Cam capture per Tim

Edit: This fish stringer is going to be a safety concern for the BB's! Mrs. BB is also concerned as she was trying to get rid of it again. Unfortunately, Mrs. BB caught it on her talon and dragged it to below the coot and it is by the fish again ...

:flirty: Mr. BB does not like the fish stringer either. While still brooding, with Mrs. BB waiting to take over, he grabs the end of the stringer with his beak and unwinds it from a stick. He then proceeds to get up and exits left dragging the stringer across one of the chicks. I thought he might drag it out of the nest, but he didn't. It is strung across the nest just below the nestbowl, as Mom has now pulled it away from them as she broods. They keep trying!!

:1snowmancarrot: Chick check @ 5:54:30 by Mrs. BB and all is well.

6:08 Feed!
6:41:30 The blue stringer is in contact with Mrs. BB's chest and visible strung along to the left of her!
7:37 Rearrangement of stringer with attempt to gather both ends.
9:22 Feed!
9:43 Feed finally over! They were fed into oblivion!! :teehee:
15:18 Feed in progress! There have been multiple feeds today! I can see a loop of the blue stringer around the coot @ the left of the nest. It's been everywhere as parents continue to fret with it. Once I saw one of the BBB's move it's head backwards and making contact with it ... as it moved when touched. I don't think it is right up on the nest now, though!

:1snowmancarrot: Saw this photo by Kary @ the Institute for Wildlife Studies site and look closely @ the brand as she points out in her post!! So, it could be 6' long. Same color, too! You just can't make this stuff up ... :teehee:

:4shiver: High winds and a little snow over the next 24 hours @ the BB's!! The tree has been creaking all day ...

:girlsad3: At 13:58:10 I saw the blue fish stringer in the nestbowl of the BBB's and one of the chicks gets a loose loop of it around its neck!! Have to leave for work in awhile and will be gone till morning. Please check if you can. The chat access is located under the cam. They have a DVR. Do not have time to scan now. They do have access to a Dr. ? (biologist??) here that they are in frequent contact with. See previous posts for review of activities leading to this beginning Saturday morning. Thanks you all! Poor babies and parents ...

I am watching, but do not see the blue stringer. Will keep looking for it. Wonder if Mrs. BB is sitting on it.

Checking in before I leave. More recently, I think the stringer is off the baby's neck and you can see the babies sitting on it. It is visible in the nestbowl!! Go back on the DVR gigi. At 2:52:30 approx you can see it across the back of one of the chicks. It is blue and obvious.

I had never gone back on a live cam. I see it now, but whoever is on the nest now has it covered up. I wish one of the parents would toss it over the side.

:flirty: All is well @ the BB nest! The stringer is still there, but seems to be so deeply entangled, I can only see one loop near the edge of the nestbowl, the last few days. They are very well-fed and getting very big!! I do not think this stringer is going anywhere and my hope is it will be deeply buried within the nest and none of the BBs' are harmed in any manner from it!! Lightly snowing @ intervals and has been below freezing here for several days and "ohhhhh does the wind blow" ... @ these times, the chicks get a little chilled and shake some during the feeds. Bonking is reciprocal and the chicks are none the worse for wear! I really love this nest!! Moving to chat ... my name is Jean if anyone is interested.
