RAVENS GOT ALL 3 EGGS
March 12, 2021

This is video
Raven comes, opens shell, takes eaglet out
WARNING: Its not pretty. I only watched one egg.
I thought I saw the eagle fly by - but seems it would have challenged the raven

:7val: :hatchegg: For Audacity and Jak at Sauces! It is not in the shell, but has a small broken piece of the shell adhered to it's body somewhere. Video by Mod Janntonne:

:15heartbeat: There was a hatch in progress for Jackie and Shadow at Big Bear and last night and very early this morning, chirps could be heard. However, since something may have gone wrong and they have closed chat here with the following notice:

"Due to the extremely high volume, chat will be closed until further notice. We will post updated recaps of the daily events throughout the day right here. Thank you for your understanding."

The last update that I could find from Mods:

"Recap 00:46, 4:28 BB1 chirps; AM 6:46 S# 1stick; 6:47 J out; 7:01 J in; 7:02 S out ; 11:26 S# 2fluff, J out BB1 hatch in progress, NO PIP2 yet"

The last view of the egg that I could find on cam was at 12:17 pm and it has a shattered look. No chirps heard nor movement seen.

:15heartbeat: Last update from mod is hatch in progress, but when I last saw the egg it was shattered and compressed some and no movement or chirps. The very last view I saw awhile ago, it was obscured by nesting material I guess as you could not see down into the bowl and only egg #2 was visible. Updates from mod continued from above:

PM 12:16 J in; 12:17 Zoom, S out; 2:32 S in, J out; 2:44, 2:52 Zoom; 3:04 J# 3; 3:07 S out BB1 hatch in progress, NO PIP2 yet

:sorrow: Chase and Cholyn of the Two Harbors (TH2) nest have lost one of their eggs. Do not follow this nest and unsure of when the eggs were laid, but chat yesterday indicated too soon for pip, but I honestly don't know for sure. Yesterday, there was a large hole in one of the eggs and only 1 remains today. The ravens were dive bombing while Cholyn was on the nest today and she had to defend and was successful. Went to nesting calendar and the eggs were laid on 2/28 and 3/3, so the large hole was not from pipping. Screen capture by Gracie Shepard from early yesterday morning of the eggs:

:15heartbeat: I'm posting the summary of todays events in whole and as you can see the mod has removed the "hatch in progress" from the 11:26 am and 3:07 pm posts from above, but now has unfortunately used the word broods at 6:45 pm post. I have seen some nibbling about the bowl, but only once saw a tiny piece of egg shell, but liquids or bits we could not see were being lightly consumed a few times when about to settle in the bowl late afternoon/early eve. Sure hope the remaining egg hatches for Jackie and Shadow from this 2nd clutch and am thinking it is the 2nd egg she was reacting to earlier, several times before going to sleep.

Recap 00:46, 4:28, 5:48:46 BB1 chirps; AM 6:46 S# 1stick; 6:47 J out; 7:01 J in; 7:02 S out; 11:26 S# 2fluff, J out PM 12:16 J in; 12:17 Zoom, S out; 2:32 S in, J out; 2:44, 2:52 Zoom; 3:04 J# 3; 3:07 S out; 4:53 S in; 5:00 S out; 6:15 J out, S in; 6:43 J in; 6:45 S out J broods NO PIP2 yet
Daddy Duty Report: Shadow was on nest-duty for 2 HR 12 MIN; FOUR shifts so far!

:sorrow: For Jackie and Shadow's hatching egg that perished for unknown reasons yesterday. Really hoping the remaining egg of their 2nd clutch hatches. From mod:

3/20/21 Update: We are sad to report, after egg 1 began to hatch, it appears that sometime during the day on 3/19 the eaglet passed away. Egg 2 is still in the nest and being cared for by the parents. Egg 2 will be at 37 days old later this evening

:15heartbeat: Have been checking the cam frequently and looking for updates from the mods, but nothing so far from the remaining egg of Shadow and Jackie at Big Bear.
