Mrs. BB(?) dragged prey across BBB2, knocking him downward as his head was already down, but he finally was able to right himself some, but did not lift head. Mrs. BB fed herself and even though BBB1 positioned itself correctly with several beak openings, she did not feed it @ this time. Going to check weather ... is that snow, ash or debris that is falling? Very fine particles, whatever it is ...

It's 32 here, so I think it's freezing rain/sleet about to turn to snow. A little bouncy and tiny right now to be snow. Below is their forecast.

Snow showers this evening. Breaks in the overcast later. Low 16F. Winds SW at 10 to 20 mph, becoming N and decreasing to less than 5 mph. Chance of snow 50%.

I watched some this afternoon and the new little one was somewhat stepped on...
I had to turn away - now this weather is not going to help with
feedings. Dang-hope for the best for babies...

Snow in the nest, but not piled on the rails. Light, snow continues. Mrs. BB has the babes covered. :flirty:

Beth, wonder if this is Mom's first hatchlings?

Big Bear
mom did get up and her back was turned to us but I do believe at least one got fed thsi evening. we have to trust her.

Image

she did not feed here that I saw

Image

but later on she got up again, it was in black and white then, and her motions indicated she was feeding. I saw youngsters and they looked fine. she needs to keep them warm.

some have indicated to me on Berry chat that this is not her first nesting. so we hope for best. good thoughts here. also , it was very windy there today and mom had problems keeping straight up ( keep all these things in mind)
maybe there will be a nice fish tomorrow.

cam went black so I could not see anymore.

:1snowmancarrot: Bev, I did some research on the BB'S this morning and found out Mrs. BB was not fully colored of the mature bald eagle last season. They believe this is her first nest. Mr. BB, they are unsure of. I think the person @ Berry was referring to her being a great Mom, not to worry, because of her gallant effort to protect her eggs during a particularly heavy snow earlier in the season. There are pics of Mrs. BB absolutely covered in the snow as we have seen with other Moms in the past. Apparently, Mr. BB tried to relieve her @ one point today and she refused to leave. And here is a comment I found that kinda sums up all of our observations yesterday:

Video of Mrs. BB eating earlier - BB1 is active and up begging for food with an open beak - a very good sign. BB2 is still very weak from just hatching and lacks coordination and keeps falling over- this will improve in the days to come for both. It is not unusual for a Mom to not feed her newly hatched chicks right away even with established parents. A chick has enough nutrients in the yolk sac to sustain them for a couple of days. Feeding is instinctual and I believe that Mrs. BB will figure this out tomorrow and begin her feedings of both babies. A weather system came through tonight dropping the temps with snow and ice pellets. She is incubating them full time - the temperature on an eagles brood patch can be in excess of 100 degrees so they are warm underneath her even without much nesting material. She is doing very well for being a first time Mom. :flirty:

Here is a link to a video by Lady Hawk and this is what I was talking about yesterday.
If this is the video Freddie B posted yesterday, then forgive me as I can not see his work.

[click][/click] :redface Video by Lady Hawk had to be removed from the clutches of click d/t a very, very, quick, flash notice @ the end of her video stating you can not publish her videos without permission. Whew, good thing I watched that 9 minute video till the end!! Maybe, a "before" the video warning would reach all. Have to remember this in future: check ends of all videos for possible warnings!! :teehee:

If you want to see Lady Hawks video of above, use this
link http://www.iws.org/livecams.html and scroll down page to find. The title on Youtube starts something like:

:flirty: Went on the DVR and saw Dad bring in headless fish. He waited awhile, but she did not budge. I think he wanted her to take a break and eat. Time is 09:18. She was vocal during event.

thanks for all your coverage SWINK. ( I need to take tim e out. so I know the nests I have been keeping track of are well watched now.

have a great day everyone .

I do not know if anyone is able to view my slideshows and videos. If they cannot be viewed there is no point in doing them as they take up so much of my time. I have posted in both formats although I cannot even see embedded one. :girlcrazy:

:1snowmancarrot: Same for me, Bev! Except always with the url. Well that feed became blocked, but I did see one being fed before the block. And when it was over, a couple soft bonk attempts. Both were heads up with beaks open.
