Pair of injured eagles prove to be lovebirds.

The two seriously injured bald eagles, found two months apart and more than a mile away from each other near the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge, were rescued and reunited in a wildlife rehabilitation facility in Medina last week.
Wildlife rehabilitator Wendi Pencille already was treating the female bald eagle, who snapped a tendon in her wing, at her Bless the Beasts Foundation, when she picked up the injured male bald eagle.
"What if he's her mate?" Pencille thought at the time.
The chances were slim, almost impossible. But these eagles beat the odds.

Chris of For the Birds of Indiana where I volunteer, picked up an injured unbanded peregrine this morning in Greenwood Indiana, just south of Indianapolis.

The bird is being evaluated at the vet now. I will report more when I know it.

The IPL power plant is on the south side on Indy and Greenwood could possibly with in that nests territory. Lady, the female at IPL is unbanded. I don't want to speculate too much, but it is possible....

The injured adult peregrine found in Greenwood Indiana is doing very well. More than likely this bird is not the female from IPL because of its small size. He was examined by the vet and found to have an old scab under his wing that should not give him any trouble so we are just giving him time to recover from his collision with the building. Since being back at For the Birds of Indiana he has gotten increasingly more aggressive and has eaten 2 birds [these are birds that died of injury and also do not require special disposal according to state and federal law].
John Castrale is going to band him so hopefully we will see more of him after release.

This is definitely a juvie and the vet thinks male because of the size. He was very calm when I photographed him [using my cell phone which accounts for the less than great quality.] He is eating well and is temporarily being kept in a small cage until a larger flight cage becomes available. Not sure when or where he will be banded and released. The Hattons will keep me informed.

WOW...gigi..those are great pics....I wonder where he came from!!!!! Do you know of other nests in the area? With him looking so young, I can't imagine that he has migrated very far from his home nest...This is so exciting!!!!....not to mention he is just so darn cute!!!

Have no idea where he came from. Of course this is the time of year when the juvies begin their peregrinations of wandering around so no telling! I think it is so exciting that he is unbanded. Like a bonus to what we already know about!!!

A friend of mine who volunteers at the Lindsay Wildlife Museum sent me this reminder:
If you feed birds in your backyard, remember to keep the feeder clean. Many diseases, such as avian pox, salmonella, mycoplasma and trichomoniasis, can be spread from bird to bird at feeders and because feeders can attract large numbers of birds, the potential for spreading disease is large. Clean your feeder at least once a week. Wash it with soapy water and rinse, and then soak it in a 1:32 bleach solution for 10 minutes. Let it air dry before refilling and hanging it.

Well I have the best news to post here. As some of you may know, we have a beautiful Raven in Lindsay Wildlife Hospital. He came in as a fledgling and cannot be released back into the wild because of vision problems.

For months, we've been looking for a place that will take him and train him as an education bird. Two places were considered, but neither of them worked out. He's a year old and he's beautiful.

I asked AJL for help, and she suggested I call two places, one of which was Cascades Raptor Center. I've visited there a number of times and even talked Louise Shimmel into letting me work a volunteer shift. I knew there was already a Raven in residence and asked if she had room for one more. She told me their Raven of 20 years had passed away. This is very sad, because the Raven was friendly, smart, and adored by everyone. The Board of Directors at CRC approved the transfer! And then after several weeks, both California and Oregon departments of wildlife gave their stamp of approval.

He will be going to his new home in about a week! Those of you who have visited CRC know how very beautiful it is, with large aviaries shaded by tall trees. The education birds have superb care & enrichment. There is also a hospital, where many injured birds are brought in for rehab.

Video: I’m a Raven!

I'm a beautiful Raven living in an excellent wildlife hospital in California. I cannot be released back into the wild because I don't see very well. But I'm soon going to a new home at Cascades Raptor Center! I've had excellent care where I've been living, but my life will be fuller and more exciting in my new home, where I'll be trained to be an education bird. I'm looking forward to that! I like to have my neck scratched and my beak stroked. Not quite ready to be stroked under my wings: I'm a little ticklish. And since this video was made, I've grown a new tail!
