Just found this "tip" in my weekly "Lion Brand yarn Newsletter" & thought you might appreciate it:

Customer Tip of the Week

I work at an animal shelter, so with all my leftover yarn, I make up blankets for the cats to have in their cages. I know our cats love them, and I'm sure there's a shelter near you that would appreciate the donation of cuddly blankets for their critters.

Thanks Catwoman, I think poopy is cool too.He is too affectionate with me at night.he cries until i roll over
and put my arm around him so he is close under my neck.if i dont do that then he stands on my back and cries until i do.This goes on all night.sometimes I have to cover my head with the blankets cuz he likes to groom my hair and thats just gross.cute but gross.poopy is totally spoiled, but so are my seagulls :hsmile:

Now why didn't I think of that! I've got so much leftover yarn after taking up knitting again two years ago . . . this will be a perfect use for it.

Thanks so much for posting that tip, Pru. After reading it, I did a little searching on the Web and found a wonderful site devoted to making blankets (a.k.a. Snuggles) for shelter cats.

Image

They've got lots of patterns there for knitting, crocheting, and sewing kitty blankets. They also have a shelter directory where you can locate shelters around the world that accept Snuggles. For more info . . .

What a great organization, Catbird! Thank you so much for locating that site. I've forwarded it to family members who love to knit/crochet.

And :thankyou Catbird! that was also just what I was thinking, as I was getting back to sleep, that I would need a pattern & now I wake up & here it is - what a great group you are! I may just check with our local shelter as to the size of their cages so as not to make them too big or small but otherwise I am good to go - got soooo much leftover balls of wool - cool! :catmoon:

Also, for folks who sew but do not knit or crochet, the Snuggle program gladly accepts sewn blankets, too!

What a great idea!! I have lots of yarn too - just started working on a baby blanket last night (to donate to church!).

Mvgrl - Poopy is a cutie! Sounds just like my cat Stinky! He was black and white and most people thought I named him Stinky because he looked like a Skunk - but it was because when I first got him he had terrible 'poops' and stunk up the whole house!! So I named him Stinky!! He also loved to sleep with me too - curled up right under my neck! I miss him so - he died a few years ago, at the age of 20!!

PruJoy, I get the Lion Brand news letters too. I've gotten so many vest crochet patterns from their web site. Crochetting kitty blankets, Good idea.I have so much extra yarn laying around. When I got Callie back in or from a shelter she a a crocheted little piece with her, Callie on the left, Buttons on the right, Just as I'm going to bed. Hop of the bed, run for the cam in the dark

What a beautiful cat Cleo is she seems to like her picture taken
her markings around her nose are gorgeous
Clemmie looks like she might be a handful she's got that
just turn your back once look

Now you say your fostering her you are such a sweetheart
how did that come about anyway that you have her too? And how in the
world will you be able to give her up when the time comes?

Thanks for the info Susan! I've never heard them termed a bale, and I actually have a 9 year old turtle.

Rosekk17....I have Cleo's twin (brother). This is Max. I need a better pic, but their faces are the same.
