"Mr. John," the keeper of the eagles and the cam, brings in a couple of bales of hay every season! Looks like the eagles found it!

Mama seems to be keeping the eaglets under her so not much to report from the nest.

On another note, my Davenport friend sent me an article about the pelicans returning to the area. Our eagles will have some competition!

Just popped in to check on the little ones - looks like all is going well. Saw a great feeding - alternating (the oldest on left), no bonking, very peaceful. :15heartbeat:

Today, the two eaglets at the Alcoa Davenport nest received bands and transmitters. It looks like all went well, and there is already a parent back at the nest (always a good sign after banding and when humans have been at the nest). Here is what Alcoa posted on their site about the banding and the reason for the transmitters and a link to the cam: http://www.alcoa.com/locations/usa_dave ... glecam.asp

“Research Project
This morning we participated in a research project being conducted by West Virginia University and supported by USF&W service. I will post some pictures later today. The process included bringing both Star and Sky down to ground level for some testing, banding and the placement of transmitters. Their migration from the nest will be followed for at least the next five years to help understand migration of bald eagles in eastern Iowa and western Illinois. Look for more details in the coming days.“

Email from Eagleholic (TwizzKid) (Today):
At the Alcoa Davenport nest, they had a power outage a couple of days ago, and when they went to check on the nest, found the two 9.5 week old eaglets on the ground, apparently having been blown or fell from the nest during the storm that knocked out the power. The eaglets have been checked and generally seem a-okay. They are not quite old enough to fledge, so today, a team from the local office of U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service helped put the pair into a tree, which is a safer place for them to be than on the ground. They reported that the parents are around and attentive and everyone is continuing to monitor the situation. Here’s a link to the cam and more detailed explanation of the happenings of the last day or two along with photos. it looks like they don’t have power restored to the cams just yet, but they are working on it. http://www.alcoa.com/locations/usa_dave ... glecam.asp

(The page noted above also has a bit more info - the eaglets are fine, although one of them did lose a talon! They were placed in a multi-branched tree, the parents have been keeping an eye on them and will continue to feed and watch over them.)

Glad they are okay. Those storms must have been nasty.

Glad they are alright. I had a feeling something was wrong when I couldn't get the cam up.
:smilehat: Thanks so much bonbon for bringing the post here.

The Eagles have built a new nest on a lower branch :downleaf:

The new nest is in the same tree just a bit lower and in a different set of branches.
