The cam is still at this nest but not working. I have been begging Bryan for a year to get it working but CCB is very short staffed right now. Still hoping though.

The great horned owls disrupted the pair last year, however they did ultimately nest and successfully hatched 3 chicks. Bryan noted a 12 day gap in the last chick so probably 2 fledged.

Update 2018: The GHO nested again in 2018 and our falcon pair returned after the owls fledged to produce a successful clutch. Still don't have a cam up :(

I am not having much luck with Bryan on this cam. Here is the Virginia falcon report for 2016, I guess the little one did survive because he banded it.

Well, it looks like the did not ID them from the report, usually they stay close to the platform and dive bomb. I have assumed the wy Bryan talked it was them, I guess I'll have to ask.

:hithere: Hello, Skygirlblue, or Oxbarb! Just wondered if there has been any progress toward getting the cam up and running for next year? I truly miss looking in on them. Also, does anyone know if there is a Peregrine pair there?

Its probably too soon for them...they won't come back on line until we get closer to egg time!! Sure wish it were sooner.

I just talked to Bryan a couple of weeks ago about it. There is a GHO in the box and no falcons around. I did talk to him abou James River because there is also a cam there and a stable pair. I am going to see if I can get someone to help.

Seriously? Nesting? What is it about GHO's invading PeFa boxes in VA....LOL

Sure would love to have James River back!!

Too funny...but, I am a day slower than you...I just posted the link under "Breaking News"...

I read this about Cobb:

The Cobb Island tower was occupied by great horned owls early in 2017. The pair waited but never
produced any eggs. The female was identified and was 8 years old with arrested molt. The bird
    maintained very worn juvenile feathers.

This male was unbanded which means Mitchell was displaced... :girlsad3: :girlsad3: but Eve was ID'd... :penguin: I didn't quite understand the last sentence..The male had "very worn juvenile feathers"? Couldn't have been referring to Eve.

Reading this paragraph here, I thought all was in reference to the GHO"S. Where did you all access this info? :snowgirl:

I didn't notice the male change. I'll have to look at last year's report, but Bryan has told me he thinks there is something wrong with the female and why the clutches have failed. The feathers discussion was about the bird never fully molting to adult feathers which is why he thinks something is wrong. A dud bird, as Shawn would say.

Post subject:  Re: Cobb 2017

I've been doing some back tracking....which only resurrects my anger towards photobucket..."Eve" 00/AD was the resident back in 2014 and produced 3 chicks. (we lost Renatta in 2013) We still had the cam. In 2015, GHO's nested first, but then I thought the falcons (Eve and Mitchell) came in and raised 2. (I don't have a 2015 report to confirm). In 2016, the Cobb pair was listed as "unknown" per the VA banding report, yet they banded 3. In 2017 per the VA banding report, Eve (00/AD) and an unbanded male were listed as residents and produced zero young. According to the report, a GHO nested first (like the past)..00/AD has proven to be productive in the past, so I think she needs to go back to Mitchell. I hope he's safe somewhere!!

In 2013 a new female came in after Renatta's death, but was soon displaced by another female...possibly "Eve" (00/AD) 2 chicks raised. I haven't gone into our 2013 archives to see if the 2nd new female was "Eve"..
