After alerting Columbus FB, they checked their DVR...so much better than what we see...

I think the pic I posted above is one of our previous fledges who had returned to the ledge. Earlier this morning, a bird landed at the far end. I couldn't tell if it was an adult or a previously fledged youngster. It acted alike a youngster...but, no proof on my end since it was so far away.

Looking at some of their vids from this morning, I think it was a return!! and my above pics are of it leaving...YAY

Yesterday

I saw three, not sure if it was the same three or not pretty sure one took off and another landed.

I'm assuming that the thing at the other end of the ledge is prey?

Howell Nature Center

Recently, the wildlife team was met with a challenging decision. Over the past two weeks, our wildlife staff noticed a sharp decline in the health of Allegro, the Peregrine Falcon, due to ongoing kidney and liver disease. This condition is common in geriatric birds of prey. As the animals in Wild Wonders often live well beyond the age of their wild counterparts, they can develop conditions like this that we are generally able to manage comfortably for some time. In Allegro’s case, our team came to the difficult decision of humanely euthanizing him this past Monday due to his increasing discomfort and depleting quality of life. Anyone who has ever cared for a senior animal knows how decisions like this, although necessary, are made with a heavy heart. In this difficult time, we thank our community for your compassion and support.

Allegro was banded (the silver strip on his legs) as a wild nestling in Columbus, OH as part of a program to increase the wild peregrine falcon population (they are endangered in some Midwest states, like Michigan). He lived in Detroit, MI as an adult for many years with his mate Miriam, but was injured in a territory battle with a younger male in 2013. His injury was a fracture in his wing tip which would re-break if he flies in a stoop, the name for their extremely fast dives to catch prey, which made him unable to hunt and live in the wild. He was 14 years old when he arrive at Howell Nature Center and this past spring was his 19th birthday. He will be deeply missed.

Was this male born on the Rhodes Tower? Son of Bandit & Aurora, or Victory?

:eggthumb: The way I read the following excerpt, Zenith was Allegro's Mom.

"Also, Nick’s dad (Allegro – from Ohio) comes from one of the most productive females in Peregrine history (Zenith – produced over 30 young in 9 years)."

I took this excerpt (last sentence in this paragraph I refer you to below) from here:

Scroll down to "Below is a photo of Nick" and read the paragraph above that. Hope my directions make sense, DEF!!
:teehee:

Allegro would have hatched in 2001. My history knowledge of the Rhodes peregrines only goes back to Orville and Scout. (Many thanks to Catbird's work "About the Columbus Falcons" and skybluegirl's love of Orville and Scout.) He arrived in 2005 and she in 2007.

I think there was a female falcon named Zenith at the Terminal Towers in Cleveland from readings, but I will let others that have more understanding than me sort this out. She was Buckeye's (who was from the Rhodes Tower and hatched in 1996) mate and passed on March 28, 2002 in a battle.

:15heartbeat: Columbus has been having problems with fights and protesters....I will look forward to any word our Columbus crew can share that our peregrine family here is safe.

I hate that so much. I saw some rioting, looting, setting fires on tv a couple of weeks ago, and a big (Mayo Clinic Sign) on a building right in the midst of if. I nearly had a heart attack. I looked the location up and the falcons were not at that building.

I hope some of our Columbus people check in real soon. The falcon FB page is asking for help. It looks like the baby dropped straight down.

Here's the vid.

Columbus Facebook just posted that a few people are headed to that area to look. They will update as soon as they can.

My brother just went to the area, did not report seeing a downed peregrine. That doesn't mean that the little one is not downed, but just that it may not be in a highly visible spot.

FB has just posted that the chick was located, appeared fine, was captured and returned to a safe place. Of course, I asked them to kinda define "safe place"...hope it wasn't a tree...

Personally, after watching this chick for a while, it may have some "issues" anyway.

Just got word that the fledgling is fine. It was taken in and "released in a safe space", per the facebook page. Not sure where that might be.

Please tell your brother thank you. I'm not sure this chick is out of the woods yet...even though it was located. Hopefully a wildlife officer was involved..
