Looks like Karen posted a new blog post. Not much new to report, but it does appear that our peregrines have been reluctant to use the Riffe tower to nest. On the bright side, it does appear that Karen and staff have been on the lookout for nesting locations and using a trail camera to potentially use as an ersatz nesting cam, which would be good. This far into the nesting season, though, I have my reservations as to whether they settled down.

I was in Columbus this weekend and took a run downtown. I was around their usual hunting grounds downtown and near the riverfront but I didn't see any signs of activity. Its been a huge bummer not being able to see our falcons this year, and even worse not knowing where they are. I hope that we can get more regular activity reports from Karen and co., as well as local birders.

The tower modernization is going to go until 2020. I just hope that our peregrines take up a regular nesting area so we can return streaming before then.

thank yo u fo r the report. they are probably nesting if they have found a spot. my hunch says they will not stray too far.

so you will spot one during a nest exchange. it can days and hours at a time looking

the year E8 left her spot, between us and the biologist, we searched downtown Edmonton. but finally they were spotted during an exchange.
when Dori and louie, first changed form gulf tower a few years back, that is how they were spotted.

so do not give up. you will get lucky :girlyes:

I feel silly posting when all I have to say is that I saw a falcon, but I realize I’m one of the only people on the board who sees them regularly. Saw one of them yesterday from my office. Couldn’t tell which one but it was an adult. (S)he was soaring over Buckeye Garage on the north side of downtown, and was freaking out all the pigeons in the area. Then (s)he did a lap around the Rhodes Tower. So, somebody is still downtown as of this week.

:1snowmancarrot: Thanks Ccollin13. Don't feel silly. Any post about a sighting is a helpful post. Your eyes tell us that someone is still in the area. The pair is probably not too far away and still in Columbus. The question is where they are nesting. Durand has usually laid her eggs by now. Dawn is the best time to catch some hunting by the male and a prey exchange at the nest site with the female after she has been on the eggs all night.

:flirty: Thanks, ccollin13!! As far as I am concerned and I bet everyone on here, you can tell me every day, I saw a falcon today!! We are desperate for any news here. Please tell us anything, no matter how small!! We appreciate all of you in Columbus on the ground or looking out the windows or taking photos!! Please continue to do so @ whatever time is good for you. I always considered this my "home nest" and have really missed them! I had planned on coming up there for 1-2 days this season, now that I have reliable transportation (mini cooper coupe, turbo-charged and so fun to drive :teehee:), however physically I have declined unexpectedly. I had cruised down the roads and memorized the buildings on google maps. Even found a hotel near the Rhodes Tower with a possible view of the falcons and I planned on having breakfast there. What a joy to see falcons, while you have breakfast. It's not a terminal illness, but I am fighting to remain erect right now. I really do hope to see the falcons and maybe you and some of the gang up there in the future. Many thanks, :dancegirl: !!

I do not think they have disappeared. Colin has seen a falcon. I think after incubation, they will see them. they will not leave the area, just like that.

I will wait for them to start with Columbus again, once they find them.

There is at least one falcon still downtown. I saw one again last week. I wish I could watch out for them more but unfortunately my back is to the window. But, the fact that I’ve seen them pretty much once a week, when I’m not actually staring out the window all day - that indicates to me that they are very active right now in downtown.

thanks ccollin. :loveshow: if you are seeing gone, then one is in incubation, probably.
you will eventually see where they are. they would not leave an area they know well. they are just in a different place.
how long is th e work going on at their original site.
