I agree Carly. I believe Mom's two eggs are gone and probably the 1st egg laid by Cadence. There still may be hope for the last two. Cadence is a young bird and her fertility may not be up to speed yet or like you mentioned some time ago...Dad may have been shooting blanks when Cady arrived...he was already in incubation mode and under different hormonal influences. The eggs may not be fertilized. That would be a sad ending for this nest. Time will tell.

Heavy duty pebble picking going on...looks like this bird is digging to China. I wonder if that is an instinctive way to build up the edges of the scrape, so a new chick doesn't roll out of the nest.

1:23 pm - Here's an egg pic, but their coloring really makes it hard to see anything. The parents' behavior says it all though....feeling or hearing something underneath them.


Given the beak coloring and leg band, this is Mom. So, Dad was in earlier in the day and he is the one with that blood stain.

I'm heading out, so enjoy the viewing. Hoping for a baby soon at Jersey City. There is definite tapping heard and on occasional, very faint chirping. The chirping is hard to hear with all the outside noise, but it's there.

Agreed. I put my headphones on and can hear the tapping and Mom is scooching on them right now.

I thought I would quickly check in and found such wonderful news here. Congratulations! This is soooo terrific after so many years. I think I am hearing a 2nd chick. There may be another on the way. I am heading out, but congrats to everyone here and to the lucky parents. I hear Dad in the background. I think he is announcing the delivery! Great sound here. Happy viewing!

We've got a change of behavior at Union.

Cadence has been hovering over the eggs and listening a lot.

Wonder if the fact that there are 5 eggs has delayed hatch by a day or two?

Here comes Dad, lets see what he does.

I think she seems a little anxious to me today.

71 degrees there, 59% humidity. Partly cloudy.

ETA 2:24 - So Dad is totally zoning... no extra movement that I've seen. Either he's used to the sounds/movement, chicks are resting, or there's nothing going on....

3:15pm ET - Cady is back in and doing some scooching on eggs... very alert. Has been in and out of igloo. Like she's not quite sure what's going on..

So I have to laugh because Cady doesn't quite know how to get the eggs under her and scooch.. She's definitely not incubating now. More like hovering and keeps looking down.

There's a PIP at Union !!!!






And, I'm not 100% certain, but I think it might be one of resident Mom's eggs!

ETA: Mom's eggs were white & really red. Cady's eggs are more tannish-redish.
