Maybe Juliet needs to stand at the bottom of the ramp and entice her out with food!!

Or, maybe Juliet can just roll her down the ramp.

Jersey City falcon family will have the absolute best view of the Jersey fireworks. They are right over exchange place where festivities will be.

Jersey City

38 days old today. Still some fluff, but not much. I watched her on and off today, but did not see her leave the box. I don't know if she has ever done so. She looks like she wants to, but seems timid and a bit lazy for her age. I saw lots of head bobbing, tracking objects, perching, preening, wing stretching, and snoozing. I would think she can see that the drop down from the box to the roof of the building is not much. Her instinct not to venture off the edge of the "cliff" is very strong. She may be a late flyer, which may be a good thing for this heavy juvie female.

I totally agree with you, Nadia. She may not fledge until 48 days. She has to get out and run around the terrace flapping AND lose quite a bit of baby fat. There are ledges below her, but usually the wind is so strong they get blown into another building or end up 42 floors down on the ground or in the river. In the past, the giant leap had been to 10 Exchange, where the previous adults cached food and kept watch. I'm not sure where these adults go.

YIPPEE! Mike texted earlier. Let's just hope she doesn't get blown off the building. She will drop like a rock or at least a very heavy quilt.

 Woo hoo! Great catch, SGB. Once she got down there, looks like she did some serious wing flaps....at last! That must have wore her out, because she is now sleeping in the corner of the box. :teehee:

From the above location, this is where she went.(this is the long ledge to the left of the nest box)

Once they realized she was MIA, they started panning, so she is currently out of view..

Oh my goodness...she has discovered there is a whole world out there! She is scaring me. :nervous: I hope she waits a few days and gets some good hop flaps in before she decides to take off.

I hope so too, Nadia...

using the DVR, I could tell they did another sweep of the area..and I'm guessing they did the same thing we did and went further back to see where she went...the cam doesn't seem able to pan that high up...anyway, all this time we've been waiting for her to come out of the box..she does and now who knows where she is...

JC Oh, boy, I thought I had another week before I had to make the trip down there. She surely does not have enough muscle strength and her weight has to be way too high to fledge. Fingers crossed. I can alert our watcher friends across the way to keep an eye out for her.

Friday traffic may not be too bad going in that direction.

JC Adult is prepping food. I can hear the eyas, but can't see her. She may be on left side NW corner terrace. YES!! That's where she was. She hopped up on ledge with adult and teetered for a few seconds, before getting her balance.

JC Noisy Nelly appears to be getting much less food now. She looks kind of slimmed down just a smidge. I catch my breath every time she wobbles on that ledge. She wants to follow the adult and I'm screaming at the computer, NOOOOO What beautiful eyes she has, though.

So glad she is still up there!!! (I haven't checked in a while)

Its been so weird reading the chat comments...cheering for her fledge, "spotting" her on tops of distant buildings. Clearly a lot of novice watchers..while they are cheering her on and applauding her big girl fledge, I'm biting my nails and frantically searching through the DVR looking for her..what a hoot!!
