Definite chirping from one of the eggs. Maybe the cover of darkness will help.

Thanks nadia...I hope cover of darkness will help, too...

9:13~I haven't had the sound on, but other than the pebble picking that Nadia referenced, all else calm...

10:00 pm~nothing to report...all's quiet and Hope appears to be asleep..

Here's hoping that a new day (or cover of darkness) will bring some healthy chicks and a happy Hope..

I'll be no help on Tuesday..

that is not the right thing to do. Sh e just does not know how to let them hatch, naturally. I feel so bad for her.

I was out at my sites monitoring from the ground but I had taped it. I have a soft spot for her :15heartbeat:

Kate has updated her blog. Please be sure to read until the end. We don't want them to turn off the cam.

Thanks for posting that SGB. I also do NOT want cam to be shut down.

And as an FYI only, I tried to access Wildearth tv yesterday and at first got a "your connection has been refused" message. I was in Chrome, then tried Firefox with same result. About 20 min later, using Chrome again, tried to connect and got and got a "windows defender has detected the Zeus virus" message. It locked up my PC because it started like 1000 instances of Chrome. Though it warns you to not shut down and "contact us", I did just that, rebooted and ran virus scan with nothing found. I DID NOT CONTACT THEM = SCAM!!!! So,basically, the site might be down because of this.

Terzo just showed us a pip in another egg, and Catwoman, your pictures also show a pip.

I posted a comment on kates blog. becasue I want to make it clear.

Hope does not kill her young. She has not learned how to let them hatch out on their own. She tries to help them out and unfortunately that may hinder them. so it is perfectly natural for her to consume the remains. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen this consumption on other sites.

I think the problem lies , with, we all watch our favorite sites with their model falcons, now we have someone who is struggling with the hatching process

Hopes first nesting may have been with an equally young male. and probably both did not know what they were doing. so she never learned. We can only assume.

:15heartbeat: hope

I do get the impression watching Hope last evening...and this is my opinion...that she becomes extremely anxious when she hears the chirping from within the egg. She reacts as if the chick is in distress. As Bev and mwplay have stated, she appears to be assisting the chick, which unfortunately has detrimental results. The pebble picking last evening looked almost frantic to me. She seemed to be doing all she could to calm the chirping. I agree with Kate that this is not normal behavior, as it does not help in perpetuating the species when offspring die. There could be many causes. It could be a genetic variance that impacts behavior. We have certainly seen genetics at work at other nests, like the curly chicks at Columbus. Random alterations in gene expression either help a species survive better in an environment or hinder it. Unfortunately, Hope's behavior at hatching is a hindrance. This is nature and natural selection at work.

I'm happy we had one hatch. I'm praying the others will fare well, too. It would be nice for this chick to have a sibling. :15heartbeat:

Nest exchange: Terzo comes in to brood the chick and two remaining eggs. Notice one of the eggs is very close to hatching.

A few moments later, Hope returned with a very large black bird to feed to the baby. After wrestling with it a bit, she took it and left. I imagine she's off camera preparing it a bit better.

:thanku Terka & Vlu
I'm at work without cam access and have been wondering all day what was happening at this nest. Thanks for your great pics! So far, so good. Hope is caring for the chick, which seems healthy so far. Talons crossed that things continue to go well.
