I watched the whole thing sgb. Ozzie brought it in, the female was there, but she left right away. It wasn't defeathered or anything as you can see, and Oz started with feathers. He never did much of care taking before, wasn't allowed. I think they got enough.

Thanks Barb...ya know, I was thinking the same thing. Harriet never would let him do anything..LOL...the chicks were hers..Such a strong, strong Mother!!

So glad he's getting to do it now...and thank goodness..Hopefully our new mom will figure it out..we gotta choose a name!!

just an aside...When Scout was a first time mom, it was Orville who saved the day until she could figure it out!!! She would stand so far away, that she would almost fall over trying to feed...

So sweet. This has been the time of day she's gone every day. Actually it was a lot longer early on. Poor Ozzie had no idea what he was getting into.

Ozzie reminds me of Lil Dad in Harrisburg. He had to show Niecey how things were done too. I guess you have this with a lot of new moms. Some have it some don't. :egg6:

as I read all of this , I think back to when I first started watching falcons, I would not have known if what I was seeing was natural or not. I just watched and was amazed. and of course fell in love :15heartbeat: ( poor Peter)
:egg11:
But when Radisson at U of A first came on the scene in 2008 , she knew nothing . Our super dad, started incubating and gradually she did, he did the feeds and gradually she took over. Look at her now. Great female, and bossy LOL . Now she had to teach the new male a few years ago, ( chase) and so the circle goes on. Great stuff this is. I am sure quite a few chicks perish as a result but in the big scheme of things, nature has its way. and at the same time , there are females that just get it right from the start. but it does not make them better, in the end.

What we are experiencing this year and for many more to come, is the new era. Sad , but something that just is..

There are so many birds in this area, especially pigeons although they keep bringing in cuckoos and random birds. The James a River park is right below the building with all kinds of habitat. Fortunately he is a great male, so peoviding has never been an issue. When they've had single chicks they were always rotund.
