I got a late start on the cam this morning, so I don't think the kids have eaten (or they ate so early they are hungry again).. they had been screaming non-stop until Ozzie (I think this is Ozzie) showed up with what turned out to be left overs. It didn't take long before the female pulled the bones through the cage.

Once they realized there wasn't anything to eat, it became more of a toy.....

I'm not catching many feeds, but the one's I am catching are a tad concerning. Mom just came in with a very small feed..the kids were ravenous, slinging themselves against the pen!! By now, I would hope I would see an unfortunate pigeon being brought in, but nope...small birds..easily snagged through the bars..and not shared..I'm hoping I'm just missing all the much larger feeds!!

Lousy vid. I missed Mom coming in and the kids freaking out before she got there~LOL

The only thing I can think of is that mom and dad have started cutting back on food...like parents usually do prior to fledge...Even though the kids are still in the pen, the parents must know they're getting close!!...at least I hope that's what is going on!! If Richmond has a shortage of pigeons, they are the only ones!!

FINALLY a decent feed...lots of short segments of this feed. All falcon manners were thrown out the window!! If I become ambitious later, I'll add music.

For posterity!!

No clue, but I'm guessing pretty soon. Probably waiting for the female to lose some more fluff. They usually let us know a head of time so we can watch...

Tuned in at 7am to see a feeding going on. Both were eating well then the female starting getting a little nasty trying to take food from him. They were still eating while I typed this.

Was just checking in on these kids and what a difference in their looks. They look like they may soon be ready to test those beautiful wings. He will go before her I think because he's a lot slimmer. Although she may full everyone as aggressive as she is. She was really being mean to him when they were eating this morning, grabbing and nipping at him when h was given food. She looks like she wants out of there unless she's looking to be feed instead. :egg11: :egg11:

Both now resting. Will check on them later. Time to go watch my bluebird nest outside my living room window. We put a house out there and they are nesting,

Two beautiful juvies sitting in the sunlight looking around. One playing with leftover. Don't know when they were feed last, maybe that's what they are waiting for. Snack time!! :egg6:

I've had no viewing time the past several days, so thank for keeping watch, Heida!!

The kids are rather feisty right now...and it looks like the female may have lost her tape!!! I wonder if the male still has his.

No update yet from DGIF on when they will open the cage!!

I think they both lost their tape. You can tell who's who cause she's a lot bigger than him.

I think this is the male...I think his tape is gone as well...

I guess the only thing I really worry about with this pen, is their lack of opportunity to practice short flights. I'm sure they are doing lots of wingersizing (I haven't personally caught it) to build those muscles...hopefully when the cage opens, they will stick around for a few days..but, that hasn't always happened.

I think if the pen was already open, there's a good chance the male would already be gone!!

Wow they are gorgeous! But I have a question? So they will not open the pen until July 6th in which time they may fledge? Hmmm . From what I am seeing they need a bigger space to exercise those wings and footwork

My opinion; my thoughts. Thank you Mary Anne for these lovely pictures.......

I couldn't agree with you more...that seems awfully late to me...maybe they had to wait until everybody was available for fledge watch...

When they open the pen, there is a very strong possibility that once they are out and discover the "world" and the ledge, they will be gone...In the past, they have kept someone on the cam to track them as the ledge area is HUGE, with quite a few corners and blind spots. I think if the pen were opened now, the male would be gone in a heartbeat...I do worry that those muscles will not be ready...and they've had no opportunity to practice short flights....fingers crossed that they won't be in a hurry once the pen opens!!

If I had my druthers, I'd AstroTurf the tops of those ledges!!!

:omg

The pen is OPEN!!! I don't see the kids anywhere.

Image

Did they change their minds? Did the kids break out? Did somebody sneak up there and open it? I wonder when this happened? I didn't have the chance to check on them last evening..did anybody?
