off topic a bit but my son is flying into San Jose tonight! I was surprised he was able to get out of Buffalo today. Weather is cold and snowy.

the female , they think is grace form sanfrancisco (2016) . trying to keep track to make sure it is still her.

there was a food gift today . good sign. First egg was not till end of feb last year

I know it is hard for followers to have a new pair, and I may go through it this year at my sites, (I have been through it before), but it is nature and I always remember the ones that came before but open up to th e new ones. cannot compare as they are all different.

I have not had time to post the last few days but I did catch them yesterday copulating. it was still early morning

then I caught the male bringing gin a food gift be right back with them

Saw shadow of mal eland to left at 8:52 , then he came into view with a small food gift and female came into view back ledge at 8:53.
She walks over and retrieves food gift and off she goes. Male stays till 8:57.

feb 13- I went back to see what loza had posted .
before lozas posting both adults were here. the male went down on runway and then to box. Grace moved over on ledge a bit and when male came out of box Grace went down and they bonded by bowing. He went up to ledge and then flew off. Grace eventually hops into box and scrapes. she goes to right in box and out of sight because of way cam is pointed . 5 minutes later we see her working her way back to left of box and scrapes a few more times. . then she hops down the runway and onto ledge. she spends quite a bit of time preening and about 17 minutes later she hops back down to runway and then back to ledge. she eventually goes onto roof of box and then goes behind box , out of sight

They were both there in afternoon today and then again at 5:42 . female stays till 6:22pm . you can really see the difference in their head caps:

pictures later but both have been in. he was east ledge and she was west ledge . then both together. They copulated on corner ledge by box, He has been on runway by box but no tin box . they both just chilled for a bit and he left . She just left at 7:37am- everything happens quite early in morning

things seem to be progressing nicely.

i have made a few videos but here are a few pictures
they spend a lot of time behind that ledge behind box. they both go down there. I would not be surprised if some mating goes on there.

she is one stubborn girl and takes forever to go to box :loveheart2:

4:06pm- first mating
5:40pm- second mating

getting a bit nervous as both going behind the box. she is not as keen on the box . a wait and see.

Hi Bev! :1val:

Saw your post over on the group. I don't know Grace's background (where she tried laying eggs before), but I wonder if she was one who tried to lay in the gutters of a building or on top of a building? If so, maybe that's why she's so attracted to the area behind the box.

Also, when I think about SF, I think about how open that nest is - there is no "roof" on the box - just the next floor up. Wonder if that's driving this behavior.
