Visiting the Wilmington Falcon Nest

Location:

The nest box is on the Brandywine Building on 11th Street between West and Orange Streets. Parking is available on the street, but the best view is from the roof of the parking garage that's directly opposite the Brandywine Building.

Here's a picture, courtesy of Kim Steininger, showing where the nest box is on the building:

Best Viewing Times:

During incubation, the best chance of seeing the falcons would be really early in the morning. CJ usually brings RG her breakfast and then takes over sitting on the eggs for a couple hours after that.

Once the chicks have hatched, there's more activity as RG and CJ deliver meals to the chicks, as the chicks start testing their wings, and as the chicks fledge and practice their flying.

Driving Directions:

Here are the directions coming from northern parts of Delaware:

-Take PA/DE Avenue (Route 52 South) into Wilmington.

-When the road splits, take 11th Street which goes to the left.

    -Cross Washington and West Streets.

-After West Street there is a parking garage for the Courtyard Marriott on the left (there's not an obvious sign for Marriott until you turn into the garage though). The garage is opposite the Brandywine Building with the nest box.

For directions from other areas or states, use "200 W. 11th Street, Wilmington, DE" as the destination on Mapquest or a similar Web site.
