Was watching the cam earlier and there was a feed. Baby did not have good position and the others appeared to be starving so I didn't watch. Anyway I checked back in shortly thereafter and watched the DVR, So glad I did, Yes the bigger ones ate first but baby was well fed, in fact held his beak closed a couple of times. At one point, she passed what looked the foot around with no takers. She's such a good Mom, very good genes.

Ljames, there was a capture by Wilmington Falcons online of Red Girl pulling the little one out from the other chicks so he wouldn't suffocate, about a week ago. They were on top of him and she noticed. Jane said that she learned from "mom" to feed ALL her babies and that's what I've seen. :loveshow:

Nice captures!

OH wow. You know, I was watching sometime, maybe last week, when I saw the little one in the corner and the others were piling up on him . I wondered if they were squishing him, but wasn't really that worried about it. Obviously, Red Girl knew differently. Thanks for the info, she's brilliant.
You know, I never worried when Mom was feeding the chicks, that's one of the things I remember most about her, that and bossing Lil' Dad around.

Just watched a feeding. The crops are bulging! Saw a video on Facebook last night of the chicks exploring the nest box. One of them discovered an eggshell and was fascinated by it, picking it up and tossing it around. Priceless!

Baby was in the back put managed to work his way to the front. He made sure to get his part and vigorously yanked a bite from the chick to the left, also

Thanks to both of you for the pictures. All chicks huddled in the corner now, although one escaped the pile looking out at the sky. Trinity flew in, but didn't have food. And Nancy, you may need to reload the other camera. I've had trouble with it also, but it's fine for me now.

In the second picture, they all looked over to the back of the nestbox. Maybe somebody was there.

Just watched a feeding. All five formed a little half circle and waited patiently for Red Girl to feed them. Afterwards there was a flurry of wing flapping, but they'll probably settle down after a bit. Not sure when these chicks will be banded.
