:loveheart: Genoa- two sleeping chicks laying against the 2 eggs. Marcele came in to check on them. PETA showed up on the lip of the box, and they actually had a short bonding time. Dad left, and PETA moved to cover the chicks. The chicks, meanwhile were hungry and stood up with their beaks open wide. Mom plowed over one and knocked the other onto his back as she covered them. I hope dad brings in prey before bedtime....

4 fledged at each location
cam stuck at both

June 12, 2020 nora RRP

The 2020 Peregrine falcon nesting season is a success at Dairyland?s Genoa and Alma power plant nesting sites! Both sets of falcons incubated four eggs. (A typical clutch for a Peregrine is three to four eggs.)

In June, the four chicks at the Alma Site were banded. ?Every chick receives a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service band and a numbered identification band from the Raptor Resource Project. Information such as name, gender, age and nest is recorded in a database. That way, if one of these birds returns, we can look up the band number and determine if it has returned home,? said Ben Campbell, Dairyland Environmental Biologist II.

Amy Ries and John Howe with the Raptor Resource Project(link is external) safely performed the banding.

The four falcon chicks in Alma were identified as three males and one female. One falcon was named Ricky in memory of Rick Jennings, who worked at Dairyland's Genoa Station #3.

There was some speculation earlier this season that the Alma falcons might choose to nest on a nearby natural cliff dwelling, as they have sometimes done in the past. However, they clearly felt they were ?safer at home? this year at the Dairyland nesting box!
