Happy New Year 2018

BioSci Bldg at UWM

Image

Cam link

This nest is at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, WI on the roof of the Engineering & Mathematical Sciences Building, also called the Bio-Sci Building. For more information and MANY great pics from the earlier nesting seasons:
FEMALE: Unbanded, same female believed to return each year since 2010
MALE: Wildcat, b/r, 71/P

Previous males: 84/r, b/r Lightning, 2014 - 2017. Hatched 2012 WE Energies Oak Creek Power Plant. Parents Eclipse and Scott. Lightning fathered 3 chicks at Milwaukee Power Plant and likely moved here early June 2014 leaving mate at Milwaukee County Power alone to raise chicks.
54/M, b/g "Hoffmann", 2009-2013/14. 2003 Hatch at Edgewater Generating Station in Sheboygan. Body found in June atop Bio-Sci building

:1snowflake2: Haven't seen a falcon... it's sunny but very deceiving. Temperature is -8 degrees, with a wind chill of -26 degrees.... :cold:

:girlcrazy: At 10:58 am, this cam went wonky. Seems like the cam tipped down so all you can see is in the nestbox.....

I see what you mean, Tsusan. I thought it might be windy, but that is not the case. 50º and feels like 49º with the wind.

Gosh, I guess I never sent this. I have added this to my "list" of forum things to check on. Thanks for letting me know.

:hmmmm So where are the Bio Sci "players" (Lightning, Tahoe, and Mrs. unbanded)? Other years I would catch them fairly often going in and out of the nest box. But I haven't seen anyone for weeks... Last year Mrs. Unbanded returned to her nest box on February 18....

Whoever was there earlier is back. It went in the nest twice, scraped a bit and preened....stayed about eight minutes.

:6snowflake: Thankyou, Carolyn- this falcon comes and goes so quickly I guess I'm always missing it! Can't see band numbers, but if it's male it's probably Lightning, the resident male, or if it's female it is probably Tahoe, who resides at a nestbox in nearby Wautosa, but winters over in this nestbox.... The resident female will return any day now and Chase Tahoe back to Wautosa....

:5snowflake: Do I see unbanded legs on the female? She is most likely the resident female at this Bio Sci nest. Her mate, Lightning adores her.... thanks for the catch, Carolyn!

 Mrs. Unbanded and the banded male have been in and out of the nestbox all day. Lots of pair bonding going on....

RE: Tahoe....posted on the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center FB page:

The falcon family atop the Watertown Plank Thermal Plant has lost its female falcon (pictured below with her 2017 hatchlings). "Tahoe" has been the resident female for the last four years, successfully nesting 14 young. Greg Septon tells us that two of her young have been spotted nesting: a male at Port Washington and a female at UW-Green Bay.

Tahoe had some past injuries which may have weakened her; it appears she may have lost a territorial battle this last Sunday.

It's likely she will be replaced by a new female. A new nest box is in place at the thermal plant and peregrines have been observed in the area. It is unknown if Asa (the male for the last three years) will return. First-time nesters are likely to nest later in the season.

There was no other info, ie: was she picked up, etc.
