HAPPY NEW YEAR!! WELCOME 2019!!

The link to the Richmond Cam is here. DGIF will turn it on in March

Male: Ozzie b/r V/S
There have been multiple young females visiting the nest in 2018. We will have to wait and see what happens this year.

I never assume one has died just because they are not there. we always assume they will fight to death for their site, but in off season or starting of season, they may just decide , enough is enough. this has been noted at some sites. . so if he does not turn up, I will think of him in retirement, enjoying his freedom from nesting.

and then just maybe he will turn up. look at Justice, the eagle at Washington.

I agree Bev, there is no proof and he did not attract a female. I'm not sure why they say this stuff.

I doubly agree!! Just look at how long it took for Lil' Dad to appear in Harrisburg this year...and we thought we had a new Oshkosh pair, then the resident pair showed up...That nest probably hasn't settled yet..

so, I'm gonna keep my eye out for Ozzie!!

It seems like they have spent the day in the Dominion building vents, as Terka posted above. I believe they put a box in there, it has been used as a back up for Ozzie and Harriet. I bet that is where they nest. It is a better location.

I don't think this female is banded but the male looks like he has a black/green band. As I post this she is still perched up top of the box. :loveheart:

Great catch, Carolyn...and for posting the update, Beth...

This bird is banded...and based on the buff coloring I'm guessing the female?

Image

the male is only banded on the right leg?

sgb, the male has a federal and the local bands. I think the green federal band on the male means it is a Virginia band (CCB does use green federal). Hopefully they got a good still shot of the bands. And the female is banded too? That would be amazing! She is super buffy. Very pretty. Well, hopefully they chose this box with the cam. I have a brand new computer but the video from Richmond is buffering, so glad you guys are getting good shots.
Thanks for watching and posting!! I've been busy watching JJ flirt with his under age girl all day, they are too funny.

from CCB website- In Virginia, all falcon nestlings are banded with an anodized green US Fish and Wildlife Service band on the right leg and a bi-color alphanumeric band on the left leg.

I agree with all of you 100%! I too will keep hoping for Ozzie to return, or at least to be sighted somewhere. He is one of the greatest tiercels ever, and an exceptionally handsome bird.

Some birds do turn up after a long time, even up to a year later. Mo at Canton was assumed to have died, and his obituary was written, and then he turned up injured in rehab. In Winnipeg, Canada, the resident male did not return from migration one year, and yet the following year he was back at the nest.
