I make every effort to get cams when I get up in the morning.
But then I close them until afternoon - when its dawn in Oz
I shall continue
Our faithful Molly brings over their blog, as no one else can get it

Hi all. Bev, I liked the "skating" pic. Lol. I get cams so infrequently I've mostly stopped trying to watch. Here's hoping next year is better with the cams. New blog entry posted below.

Well fed chicks getting adventurous
Published 19 October, 2017 | By Cilla Kinross
Although Marragaay is getting really well fed, Bali is not doing too badly – and at least he’s not eating himself sick. Marragaay reminds me of Mr. Creosote in Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life (this might not mean much to the Americans, apologies) and I hope he doesn’t blow himself up.

At least one very well fed chick

VIDEO 20171019 Mr Creosote https://youtu.be/kg9VYkvWWF4

After a few tentative steps a few days ago, the chicks (especially Bali – Marragaay can only roll about!) are starting to get a bit more adventurous, even creeping close to the ledge and Bali has been doing some wing-flapping.

Image
Hello, what’s out there?

Neither Diamond nor Xavier is spending much time keeping the chicks warm now that the weather has improved, although there is quite a bit of rain forecast for today and tomorrow, which might change things and make it harder to get prey.

I’ve noticed that Diamond hardly ever brings in starlings, although she will feed them to the chicks if there’s nothing better. Her preferences go to rosellas, galahs and other larger birds – she caught a red wattlebird yesterday (a large honeyeater). The prey is getting easier to identify as there is less preparation now, but I’m still not sure what the large white bird was (feathers seen in top photos). Possibly a sulphur-creasted cockatoo, which would be appropriate revenge for the orgies that the cockies sometimes hold in the box during winter, even chasing the male out of the box!

I’m tied up with full-day meetings, landcare etc. over the next three days and it will be difficult to keep you updated (and I’ll get horribly behind again). And a lot changes in three days. Unfortunately, I don’t have access to the software at home – it’s very restricted because of the tie-in with the university location and security situation. Many thanks to other Scylla for helping out in this respect. It’s very much appreciated. Let’s hope the streaming cams don’t keep blacking out. so she can use her screen-capture software. I assume that’s similar to what Arjen was using last year.

Hi Sally! Welcome! So glad you found this site. It took me a year of watching eagles to find out about it.

Full disclosure is I am not the one reporting. I am merely accessing the blog on the CSU falcon web page. Do you know how to find that? It's in the far right tab next to the nest and ledge cam tabs on CSU's website. Most people are not able to access CSU's blog because in their eager efforts to blog hackers, CSU has managed to block all the cam viewers but for a random lucky few, of which I am one. I just paste their entries here for folks. I have to download the videos from the CSU blog and upload to my YouTube account and link it in that way, but I didn't make the videos. CSU staff did. I hope this makes sense. :15heartbeat:

Molly

12:02pm- diamond is in feeding a nice leaned piece of prey. Xavier was wet and in just before.

I am thinking he caught it. please remember that just becsue Diamond brought it in, does not mean she caught it. Xavier is doing a great job. Wish I could be on the ground here to watch. He does not get the credit he deserves.

the Young ones are both eating well. the young females always do eat more. they are larger and so need more. OUr young male does not want ot be eating at same pace.

will post pictures later. Diamond getting a nice feed also. she is trying to stuff more in them and they do not really want it LOL

When I finally got the cam it just kept running, so I took advantage of that with a tsunami of pics! I am really happy to see Bali moving all over the box - except NOT TOO CLOSE to the edge. He was even scrappin some tidbits.

Bali in the near corner poking around

Xavier with prey - which Diamond flew in and grabbed - lol
Almost looks as if he brought roses
