Thank you everyone for all the updates, a little sad for the loss of their third egg
but happy Diamond has taken care of it and that they both have two healthy chicks. Well done!

just home and off to bed, but first time I have had cam in a few days.

well hopefully there was not another falcon out there SGB.

I believe it is diamond at window. chicks are resting. I have no sense of what has happened in last few days with not being able to view, but things appear O.k. at moment

one chick is certainly scratching

Yesterday was nuts
Oct 10, 2017

Yesterday either Diamond was chasing Xavier for prey
- or there is an intruder around
Di was coming an going - and panting, wings apart.
Great pics sky!

PEACE and CONTENTMENT
This morning (in USA)
6.39 pm in Oz
Di is feeding kids
LQQK at that crop! :)

I'm sorry I made a long post in triplicate yesterday. I just saw that. I don't see how to delete two of those posts. BCAW site was acting like it wouldn't take my posts so I kept tweaking it and hitting submit. Lol, embarrassing. There is no new CSU blog post today so far.

10:00 am on 10/10/17 Diamond and fluff balls are sleeping. Diamond isn't covering them and I don't think they can thermoregulate yet, can they?

Image

I don't know why Diamand would have left them so much yesterday. My guess is she was trying to get Xavier to take a turn brooding or bring food. That's just my guess, and yes it seems a little unusual to me that they were alone a lot when so young.

Fingers crossed cams keep working.

Molly

diamond , I think, with the kids.

hope cams are more regular in daytime today so we can see what is going on.

it is not real cold here like in our part of world so kids are fine uncovered. One is 10 days old today so old enough . will look for temperature there

I always try to put positive comments but if sh e was in and out so much, it would not be chasing Xavier for food. He would not do that. maybe an intruder of some kind around. we had seen a kestrel , and now that chicks are born, they will chase off anything that flies.

Orange NSW temperature
Unless its in F I dont understand
http://www.weatherzone.com.au/nsw/centr ... nds/orange

bev posted ......... (thanks)
they will chase off anything that flies.

I posted a pic Cilla sent me of the bothersom kestral.
Wouldnt they be competing for the same prey?
Even each others young?

That reminds me of drones watching eagle nests.
The eagles attack and 'kill' the drones
They even disguised the drone like a juvie - didnt work for long

0 C is freezing , so these little ones are O.K. not to be covered.

I was raised in FArenheight but we converted to Celius years ago. so O.k. in both.

cannot get cams again. only had for 3 minutes

3:45 am on 10/11/17, a little one is squirming around under Diamond, who is remaining tucked. I can't believe we're already almost out of the brooding phase. I was so preoccupied with the 3rd egg that it flew by.

we all were MOlly . we just all were so pulling for that little one. I know the shell thickness etc, is all linked to food supply. Would have been interesting to know why so thick. we knew it had to be.

but now we can concentrate on these little ones.

I must admit , I do not like watching here, when it gets close to fledge. there is no perch outside, and we have seen then fall off in the past. most sites have perches, .

but I will watch till then

must get on with chores now have a great day. will watch when I can

Diamond's first juvie took off and flew clear across the road last year.
falcon chicks at banding age can sail safely to the ground
I dont see a perch as needful

I love King
it has a lovely outside playground!

7:43am - diamond was on ledge and flew out just now

and she is back

do not know if there has been a feed.

We have seen twice in last few years, youngsters blown off or fall off. just my humble opinion. these youngsters have no outside ledge to go on or outside playground. take a look at where it is. most sites we see have perches , ledges or some outside place to go before take off.

diamond is in iwth prey. it is not one she just caught , so hopefully one Xavier caught. If someone is in area, XAvier will be guarding and hunting when he can.
