in my opinion there is no sibling rivalry here. I saw that video and watched it several times. and as loza said. that was pellets coughed up. look again very carefully. the chick standing up was bringing up pellets. he did not even come near to pecking other chick. that is pellets of food on other chicks back.

I did see yesterday, that bigger chick was sort of coughing, as if something stuck , but did not comment because it was rectified quickly.

I have watched as closely as I can this nest, and I have seen nice beaking , as they normally do. no aggression at all. now there mat be times when one moves and accidentally hits the other one, and one may do a quick beak, but that also is normal.

do not mean to contradict but look closely again. these two are as normal as can be.

now I am not watching 24 hours and I may miss things, but I have seen nothing that is not normal. but I will keep an eye out when possible

I just showed video to my husband also.

chick is coughing up pellets. it probably had too much to eat., or something stuck there. See this quite often. not surprising , if you have seen the crops .
We have seen chicks stuffed beyond all else at other sites also.

I have been posting that the chicks are really scratching, from the insects.( which we have seen a lot of ) This has been noticeable. so what you might think is aggression is them scratching also. I just have not seen any signs of aggression.

this is my observation.

but I will take as many pciutres as I can and watch very carefully. I have not done any videos lately as I have to turn off cams to process.

10:54am- Diamond to window

Image

11:21- one chick to left does A WEE BIT OF SCRATCHING AND THEN BACK DOWN.

11:40am- Diamond still in window. appears a bit breezy and bigger chick now sleeping peacefully with head on back of other chick.

cam stopped at 11:54- smaller chick had a nice ps

cam back at 12:09

a few spots are seen on one chick. I have blown up and have been watching. It has been scratching there. I document this every day. I have been keeping an eye to see if they need dusting. But I know they do not do these things here. the same chick also still seems to have some of food pellet on its back .you can see it blow in wind when chick goes to grab it . It is not a puncture. we watch at our sites for signs of itching caused my mites or insect bites. these tow do seem fluffy and well . it will show more as they grow, if there is a problem. I see no signs of pink . their crops are full

one is not more active than the other. Soon they will be moving around. ( these are my observations.)

Image

the spot you see is food. the chick has been trying to take it off. I did see it move in breeze. LOL but he is very itchy .

the cams have been more off than on for me. but piecing it together, Diamond left and came back right away once and at 3:29, ledge cam saw XAvier come in with prey and Diamond right behind and she retrieved it form him and he left. cam went black before nest cam showed feed. But we know she would feed the young ones.

I saw no aggression while cams were on. Chicks, just basically slept , scratched and move postilions.

I will retrieve a few pictures and then it is night time for me few pciutres

I do believe all is well here. But will keep monitoring. We should start to see chicks moving and shaking in a few days.

Pic cilla sent me
I can see why Cilla thinks its a wound

Whole lotta scratchin goin on!
Kids settled for the nite, Mom standing in window looking out.
Its easy for dried barf to appear as a wound.
I emailed Cilla with the - dusting - thought.

sky, bev, please dont let cams trouble you, Cilla hopes they'll get better NEXT YEAR.
As a TEAM, we are getting plenty of pics.

NOTE
Remember Delawaerie
Heard from him - he had some 'heart problems' so been out

I had 3 emails with pic from Cilla this morning
I had sent her the bcaw link, she read what y'all posted.

Looks like dried blood
Oct 16, 2017 Emails from Cilla
Too much blood for a bug, but vomiting certainly makes sense as there was no resistance from the other chick. Hope they are right!

I thought everyone must be right about the vomiting after reviewing the sequence of events (40 minutes feed in under an hour) and the tape, but now I’m not so sure. Perhaps you could forward this to your experts and see what they think. It does rather look like a wound to me. This was taken early this morning.

There is no actual rabies in Australia, although there are other closely related diseases such lyssavirus, which could spread from bats, although they would have to bite or scratch the birds and I don’t know if it’s transmissible to birds (it is to humans, and I’m vaccinated against rabies as I handle bats occasionally, and it’s the closest preventative measure).
Cheers
Cilla
