Hi, here is some history for predicting hatch times this year! All dates are from the cams' timestamps, so are local Orange time.
Eggs in 2020 were laid on Aug 27 (about 4 am), Aug 29 (about 4 pm), and Sept 1 (about 2 am). For Diamond in the past, the time from first egg laid to first egg hatched was:
2015 = 38 days
2016 = 37 days
2017 = 36 days
2018 = 36 days
2019 = 37 days

Some great news: a new cam has been ordered to replace the nest cam!! If it arrives before the first egg hatches, it will be installed right away. The cams are actually located outside the box, just looking through holes in the walls, so disruption to Diamond would be minimal. A new streaming server has already been installed (as of about a week ago), which has been successful in making the nest cam stream more stable even without a new cam.

I'm not on here very often, so am going to just give you a couple recent video I've made. Apologies if I'm repeating anything already posted.

2020.08.31 Xavier pleads for more egg time: https://youtu.be/p_NsLeLzpEw
2020.09.19 Diamond comes home for dinner: https://youtu.be/GWNlOMPLbP4

I wanted to show you some cute photos with funny captions, but have run out of time! (Is there any way for me to post photos here straight from a computer, without uploading them to an online service first?) If any of you are on Facebook, you can always see more stuff there, in the group called Orange, Australia Peregrine Falcons. https://www.facebook.com/groups/2457177544363796/

Thanks and happy watching!

Hi Shepherd :)

I think I'll guess October 3 (in Orange)/October 2 (US) for the first egg to hatch. If I use a 37 day average, and start from Aug 27 (Orange), does that equal October 3? Sometimes I'm calendar-challenged! LOL I don't have records on how long it has taken from pip to full hatch, but I'm gonna guess a day. I just remembered one important detail. Cilla, the researcher in Orange, counts the egg has "hatched" before people at US nest cams, in my experience so far. For her, as soon as the chick is visible through a crack counts as hatched. All my numbers in my previous post came from Cilla's data.

LOL HOLLY
what is a hatch?
I guess the bcaw peeps say - OUT of the shell
I'd go along with that

A couple years ago Diamond's one egg, the chick half hatched. It'd sit up - in the shell - Diamond fed it - never made it. I dont like to say - kinda funny .... but .... was unusual.

Welcome, Holly! :grwelcom

In answer to your question about can you paste the pictures here without going to a photo sharing website, the answer is unfortunately no. The photo sharing website that most of use is Imgur. See the following for questions about taking pictures:

If you have any questions, just ask! :1val:

Thanks so much Nancy! I had posted on this forum just a little bit last winter, but have totally forgotten everything... I'll check out that link, thank you. :)

Does anyone have a guess for hatch day?? :-D Shepherd, are you sticking with Oct 1? This is only my second season watching, so I'm only guessing based on Cilla's numbers. Does anyone have a sense for whether Diamond started incubating non-stop earlier in the egg-laying process this year than for other seasons? To me, this year, it looked more or less non-stop starting roughly around egg #2.

Hatchdate 2016: 36 days after the first egg.
36 days in 2017 and 2018, 37 days in 2019
So October 2 or 3 for this year I guess :girlyes:

09/25 From czat:

Cilla Kinross
I think it's Xavier and it's smaller than a bird around 1108 morning. I may be wrong, but considering the size and behavior, I think we had an intruder (hangout video).

Weird. I just checked it on rewind (11/08). If it wasn't Xavier, then I wonder why Diamond didn't protest much louder?

09/25 11.08 am Intruder?
