I am sadly announcing that I will no longer be reporting to Genesee. This is my decision. The last few days have been very distressing to our birds and those of us watching.

We know they have to do stack work, but they are doing more than that. They are harassing the birds. They open window above the box and hang over. They take pictures. They whistle at the birds, scaring them. We have a very good female there. She is not aggressive to them. The workers hang out the side door and top window, taking pictures etc. The male does not even come near as he is in protect mode.
The female has remained off eggs for long periods of time. If this continues, the eggs are in danger.

I made ONE call yesterday and left a message. I was not treated nicely, when he got back to me. I was told to not keep phoning him. I was puzzled as this was my only call I had made. Basically I was told to pound sand. All I asked for, was for them not to bother the birds. I said that I I realized they had to work in the stack, but to show the birds some discretion.

Well, I have suspected that this has been going on for a few years. Peter and I went out once, when we saw birds fly out and stay out for long periods. We saw doors on stack open, but I was always told, they used discretion when up there. Well now I finally see for myself.

They called our previous female stupid because she wanted to nest in vents away from the stack. Now we know why.

I was fortunate to have a small role in an early research project at this site and have been very attached to it since. I am deeply saddened that the passion and commitment that was so evident at that time has waned to a point where it appears that the birds have only become a source of entertainment for the workers.

I too have been very attached to this site and spent last night thinking about all the things I enjoyed and marvelled at. There were the Bobsey Twins x 2 (my name for them in my notes - - nothing official.) They were the easiest to identify ever. A male and a female with grey feet and a male and a female with yellow feet a matched set. Even their heads matched, 2 with prominent racing stripes 2 with not so much.

There was the one year where we had 3 males and a female. The boys were naturally first to fledge but regularly returned to the box a night, usually 2, some times 1 but always different groupings so we never had to worry if anyone was missing. The female was slow to fledge but the night before she finally did, all the boys came home at night for a little reunion before she went. It was quite the event for me.

And even in the dark times when we had no adults at the box for hours at a time, I would marvel at the resilience and determination demonstrated by the parents in looking after the wee ones. One example that came to mind was when the female brought in goslings, 3 of them, one at a time, during the lunch hour and stuffed those poor things until I thought they would explode. She was hunting on the ground while the male performed sentry duty. (this is a guess on my part) she stayed close to maximize their food intake and just as well that she did because the stack work continued and there was no more food until late in the day.

I watched and learned while the male regularly teased the kids with food after they began to self feed. I watched a pair of squatters move into the box one year in September after the resident pair had left.

I don’t have time right now to go back and offer times and dates and pictures and I hope you can forgive me. I wanted to offer up this note as as tribute to the dedication passion and enthusiasm with which Bev has undertaken her monitoring here and the generosity she has shown in sharing her vast hordes of knowledge with me. She truly is a Falcon Whisperer and I am grateful every day for the world she has opened up for me.

It is a sad day that a Falcon Whisperer has to give up on a nest site. What does it say about a company that has no control over their employees and contractors. Shame on them.

I've been gone a lot...and am just now playing catch up...I am so very sad to read this. :girlsad3: ..this too is one of my favorite nests...so, after reading this, I thought I would document this morning...and maybe email what I was seeing to the "powers that be"...well, currently the cam is off line...I hope its just a glitch VS they don't want the public watching, so they turned it off..

I'll keep checking through out the day in hopes it comes back..

I was waiting g a few day before i posted. I wanted to see how things went. I was contacted on Friday and told that the issue had been handled. Friday , the birds were watchful but it was a day without stress. I was happy to hear and see this. but now that the cam went off air on Friday after supper, I am wondering why??
