july12a youngster is on platform next to box. could be young female as she was on roof of building nest to box. not sure
july16Peter and I drove out and stayed for 6 hours. We have to watch from quite a distance and luckily w e have a scope. We saw flying and tagging, bu t I have to see 2 youngsters together for sure. the tagging could be an adult and a kid. so I followed on e all afternoon. it ended up on wire on nest box stack on opposite for afternoon . I had a suspicion one was way across the yard amonst some cylinders, but could not see it.
finally we were rewarded. I pointed scope in direction of the cylinders as I thought I saw something fly up. Sure enough , there was one youngster. and then a bit later , a bird flew over from the north, not far away. Voila, saw them both in scope. they beaked and flapped and catwalked. that the female was way across from where she was placed , left no doubt in our minds that they were flying well. I could write a long report here, but suffice to say, we were 100% sure, they were flying well. We saw both adults also. Patience pays off.
