:shamrock5: The microphone has picked up peeps when Iris gets off the nest. Per chat, a pip usually develops about 1-2 days after the chick breaks into the air sac and starts vocalizing. We should have a hatch soon! :15heartbeat:

There is a new addition to the family tonight. Some trees were cleared in the area and a GHO nest destroyed. One chick died and the 2nd chick has been placed by authorities with Altera to foster. The chick is about 3 wks old with eyes just opening. Needless to say, Altera looked a bit surprised by the new addition. :15heartbeat:

OKC Owl Cam ~ New Foster Baby Owlet Added To Nest for Altera

Tonight ()3/31)at 9:30pm, a new adopted foster owlet was added to the Tiger family planter nest box.
The 3 week old baby Great Horned Owl was recovered from an area
where some trees were recently being cleared in a suburb of OKC.
The addition of the baby owl was made under the care of Wildcare OK & their professionals through collaboration with the Clicks,
who sought the advise of multiple owl experts & care providers to ensure its success.
Altera is capable of feeding all three owlets and will care for the newest baby as her own.

in cowlaboration with the Clicks

I watched the Ches ospray pair foster an orphan very successfully. Twice.
I am quite surprised to see a FIRST time brooding owl do this!
Name it either April or Foster! - or Lucky!

Thanks for the videos loza, I'll share them with RRP

Looks like Altera has accepted the new owlet. She is brooding it today, which she has not done lately with Primo and Secundo. As they've grown, she's been leaving them alone in the planter. It is amazing that she recognizes the new arrival as needing more TLC. Of course with her being back in the planter, the two older owlets are trying their very best to snuggle and get under her...lol.

Primo made it out on the ledge this morning, but quickly hurried back into the plantar and moved Secundo out of the way to get close to Mom for some comforting...lol.

:hatchegg: :shamrock5: Thanks Loza. Congratulations Rusty and Iris. She wouldn't let anybody see her baby during the day.

Some pics from Saturday, 4/1 of the new arrival. Secundo looking at the newbie.

Here you can see Primo's feather tufts forming for her "horns." The new baby is at the far end of the plantar with eyes closed. Secundo is between Primo and the newbie.

A pic from today of the kids and Mom sleeping together. Pantry was empty all day and Altera periodically called, begging for food starting in the morning until night fall. Fog and rain the night before made hunting difficult. However, food is being supplemented by wildlife authorities, since the new owlet needs more feeds throughout the day than the older owlets. I was amazed to see how tender and affectionate Altera was with her two oldest owlets. When she arrived in the nest this afternoon, she greeted them both with beak touching and preening. They preened her back. It was incredibly touching to witness. Afterward. they all cuddled close to her. They really love their mom. She is such a comfort to them. :15heartbeat:

:15heartbeat: Shep, that's such a nice way to look at - why the owlet found this as a its new home. I am just amazed at the tenderness and affection they all show for each other. It is truly love. There is no other way to describe it. Altera has turned out to be a fantastic first time Mom. I'm glad to report that hunting was very good last night and everyone was well fed by morning today.

:thankyou Loza.
They were expecting the 2nd hatch today, but I don't know if they heard any chitters from the egg yet. There was nothing on Facebook yesterday. I got on the cam site after chat closed last night and watched for a bit. Rusty is so cute. Iris has rarely left the nest since hatching started and he was perched just outside the nest...staring at Iris...lol. I think he wanted to see the baby, but she wasn't budging. He can certainly hear the owlet and intently watches Iris as she feeds the newborn. It is amazing what an interest the Dad's show in their babies. I am so happy for them! :15heartbeat:

:hapdance: They believe they were hearing two owlets last night. Iris has been so protective, she rarely gives anyone a peek into the nest. So, as of early last evening it was unknown if the 2nd egg hatched. However, they were picking up sounds on the microphone that led them to believe the 2nd egg was in the process of hatching or already hatched.
