At Approximately 6:45AM, Thursday July 30, 2009, as a very large branch spontaneously broke off of this tree, Bandit spooked and went off the edge of the nest at the 7oclock spot and landed on the ground outside of the yard near the road. O.W.L. was notified immediately and Bandit was rescued and taken into their expert care. He suffered no injuries but was found to be underweight and have poor muscle development in his wings.

Well, I'm very happy to hear he was not injured. Wonder why he was underweight . . . ?

This is too bad, but sounds like he was not enjoying it anymore. I did not really understand whether or not there would be a streaming cam next season . . . ?

Thanks for posting that news, PattiO...and what a huge loss to the Hornby nest and fans...and I'm sorry to hear that "others" have taken some of the joy out of his love....I think I followed the Hornby nest more than the others..

I wasn't clear either, susan...but sounded like maybe someone else is going to have to pick up the streaming? I need to go back and read more carefully...

It's not really clear - the thing is, Doug own's the camera's and the nest is on his land (I think!). He said there's a "chance" someone else would pick up the stream but he doubts it. The cameras will still be there and he'll be able to watch them and record if he so chooses.

I think he really just wants to retire - and who can blame him!! I will miss the cam though. This was the first year I got to see it as I wasn't here in 2006.

Thanks for the info Patti. Its such a beautiful nest, and obviously has brought joy to many, many eagle watchers around the world. Hopefully Doug will continue to post occasionally. I'm sure its not that easy dealing with David Hancock, but hopefully Doug's retirement from the eagle cam will give him relaxation and lots of eagle watching.

Ma & Pa Sydney have been caught doing some major nestorations. They've been lugging around big branches, sometimes even popping each other on the head with them

Good to know, Pat. I checked in on them just recently but they must have been taking the day off. ;)

This is the NEWS you've been waiting for!!

Bandit is going to be released!
Yes folks, the arrangements are confirmed and the word can go out!!
Bandit, who fell from his nest on July 30th, and has been living the
life of luxury at O.W.L. will be released on (drum roll please)

Wednesday November 18, 2009
11:00AM
Sandpiper Golf Course
14282 Morris Valley Road
Harrison Mills, BC
Located just off Highway 7, 35 km east of Mission and 20 km
west of Harrison Hot Springs

This will be a wonderful location for Bandit to begin his life. Salmon are plentiful
and there are hundreds of eagles in the area feasting. He will fit right in!
This location is very near to where our Chehalis/Harrison "Eagle Point" trio
of cameras is located. Can you imagine how amazing it will be for Bandit to
gain his freedom in such a wild, untouched wilderness?!
Everyone is Welcome!
Cheers!!
Terry
