There have been many reports of immature and adult bald eagles who remained in the area. I have seen at least three soaring above the Hudson River. Can't wait for the 2010 season.

K-10 & K-26 sometimes return as early as October, to start Nestorations for the Season.

This year when the nest failed loosing both hatchlings they were doing Nestorations, to make the nest appear occupied, so another Eagle would not stake claim to their home.

I am soo looking forward to a better year then we had this past Season with a successful nest.

W.E. Intruder, by another Catalina Island Juvie, being chased by a parent. This is a popular nest this year. First human instrders, and now another Juvie. This reminded me of Spirit & Skye on P.H. last year being attacked, and knocked out of their nest.

He was taken away two years ago today, and I miss him terribly, each and every day.

NOTE: Click on the blue Links for still shots and video's. Banding Day had me in tears this morning. Watching him being measured, blood tests, Banding his Leg, putting on Wing Blings and finally his GPS transmitter, which led us to him, so he could be properly buried. Rest in peace Sweet Peeps.

Sadly I report we have lost K98/Faith from the WE nest. :( And K96 from the Twin Rocks nest. :( They both drowned. I can't even read the update - just got the news from the Maine forum from JudyB.

Oh noo
This really has been such a terrible year I'm so sorry to hear of all the losses at these nests.
I kindda stayed away from eagles except for SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV and DELTA since the horrible lose at Fort St Vrain

I'm so sorry to hear of the losses at W.E. and T.R. this Season. We must remember they have a 50% chance of survival.

Here is an update on the boys who walked across the West End nest . . .

Quote:
In other news: an update on the West End nest intruders. They have been charged with misdemeanors through the city, and for the federal offense, USFWS gave them several hours of community work in the form of educational presentations. They have to prepare a power point presentation and talk about the bald eagle program, the island fox program, the island’s ecology, its native and invasive plants, island regulations, etc. The young men met with me to talk about the eagle program and with Conservancy biologists and botanists to find out about the rest. They will present this at their own camp and several other campgrounds on the island.

Wow, I'm pleasantly surprised they were able to find those boys. Sounds like a good consequence for their actions -- maybe they'll learn something.

It seems the ospreys are gone from the Hailuoto, Finland nest. However, this morning it was visited by a juvenile white-tailed sea eagle---a Real Big bird! Captures were sent by a friend, Ms. M. Hoogland......

PattiO, thanks for letting us know that the boys who walked across the WE eagle nest have been found & it sounds like the punishment will help prevent them doing it again!

NatureNut, boy that eagle dwarfs that osprey nest, doesn't it?! :o Thanks for posting the pics!
