great captures pearl!! :) I missed your ? earlier about the Falcon on the WE nest. I'm pretty sure I remember one of Stefanie's posts on CHIL talking about some nesting Falcons - so they must nest on the islands. I haven't had the time to go back and check the posts to see if anything else was said about the one that was there.

Stillwater-Sutton (Oklahoma) Update:

4 December: Our field crews from OG&E, Atlas Computers, and Sutton placed new cameras
and connection lines at the old nest recently, but we found the eagles are building a new nest
in another location nearby. The new nest is in a difficult situation (for human climbers)
at which to place cameras, but we are doing our best to do so before the eagles lay eggs.
Of course we cannot gain access to the nest once the eggs are laid. This morning the adult
female was back sitting on the crossbar of the old pole nest. Since Bald Eagles often build and
maintain more than one nest in the same vicinity, but finally choose one of the nests in which to
lay eggs and raise young, it is hard to know exactly what might happen.
We will keep you posted.

Tis the Season to See Bald Eagles in Maryland

by KYW's Molly Daly

If you've never seen a Bald Eagle in the wild, there's an easy fix for that. You can see Bald Eagles -- lots of them -- a little more than an hour's drive from Center City.

The Conowingo Dam was built on the Susquehanna River in Maryland more than 80 years ago to generate electricity. Nowadays, it also generates excitement:

Joe: "This is probably one of the best places on the whole East coast to see eagles."

Especially in the winter, that's because the eagles, like Joe and Richard, are here to fish -- a job made easier when the turbines run:

Joe: "When the water runs, dinner is being served."

Richard: "It's amazing to see these eagles dive down and pick them up, and then when one flies off with one, a lot of times another will try to take it from it."

Joe: "Oh yeah, they're better fishermen than me or Richard."

Daly: "Well, it is life and death for them."

Joe:"It is. It is! There's no McDonald's for the eagle clan."

Well, actually there is: the Conwingo Dam on Route 1.

On a personal note, they were really there en masse when i visited a few weeks ago. Juvies, sub adults and mature BAEAS dining on fresh sushi

Stillwater-Sutton (Oklahoma) Update:

18 December: It is still isn't clear which nest the eagles will choose to use. We plan to
install a camera on a portable tower near the tree nest in case they use that one. The video
feed from the original tower nest should be up and running soon.

I have 2 pics from Blackwater this morning but forgot to upload them from my work computer so I'll do it tomorrow. Love the pics from Decorah - I didn't see anyone there all weekend.
