These 2 made their first trip down to the 'patio' today. 68 only got one fish this morning and was a bit hungry. K10 came in with a fish but it got dropped over the nest somehow and he kept trying to find it while the chicks whined their heads off!

Mom came in with food - so much carrying on we couldn't tell if it was just 68 whining or if 69 was calling too.

I was reading on another Forum, and they say K-10 & K-26 may build another nest for this Season, and abandon this one! :o The reason being the nest is leaning far to the left, and there is a HUGE sinkhole in it. :-( They stated it may be beyond repair at this time. :cryinggirl: This is terrible News as the IWS Team will have to try to find them and then relocate the Cam so we can all watch. Perhaps our Princess Cruiz will take over this nest with her mate.

For those who do not know Cruz was the 1st offspring of K-10 & K-26. She had been with a mate for the biggest part of a year now, and is of breeding age this Season.

Thanks for this update, Cricket. I guess the eagles know what's best and safest for their family, but it is sad that we may not be able to see them next year.

I was watching the nest today and saw the hole myself. It's HUGE! They could loose eggs, Eaglets, and K-10 & K-26 could break a leg should they get stuck in it. I am so sad, and broken hearted for these two and myself too, if they choose to re-build, but they know what's best. After all K-10 is a Master Nest Builder! An excellent Dad to his offspring as well.

Well it appears as today that K-10 & K-26 are going to try to make a go of it for another year at this location. They were both working bring in sticks, branches, and lots of fluff trying to fill in the gaping hole. The hole appears to be in the nest wall, and not the floor.

I just hope they don't add too much weight, as the nest is at the top of a tree which is dying as per our famous Biologist Dr. Peter Sharpe, and is tilting to the left. When the Sana Anna winds come during the Incubation Period the nest very well could topple over causing it to be a failure this year. I hope this us not the case.

K10 & K26 have been coming to their nest the last couple days - doing a little bit of work here and there. There has been a big hole on the back side of the nest, and it looks like the front left has started to sag a bit. I think they can fix it though. The problem with these nests is that they keep adding and adding each year and the nest gets heavier and heavier.

K10 keeping watch for his lady. :flirty:

K-10 returned to the nest again today, and was working in the hole. Not sure if it's still there or not. Sun would not co-operate shinning on the mountain in the background was up too high. Then a cloud covered the light on the nest, and I couldn't see.

I did notice the right side @ about 2 position seems to need attention too by our Master Nest Builder.

K-10's been very busy for the last few days making trips to Nest Depot, and bringing home lumber for the hole.

The above Link from the Chil weekly Update page.

It shows the HOLE in the nest from the top and bottom view as well I believe.

Sorry I don't know how to get a picture here of the nest any other way. Hope you all enjoyed the scenery on Santa Cruz, and reading the reports from the Biologist's and IWS Team. They even mentioned S-68 & A-69 from last Season. Nothing of Cruz yet who started it all.

Cruz was seen this past February ...

Quote:
Dec 29-Jan 5, 2010 Sighted by Stephanie at Fraser Point, Santa Cruz Island.
SCI Update: Feb 9-16, 2010. IWS Crew spotted her with A-40. Cruz may be the new female at Fraser Point! (Non-Breeding - Season 2010)

Thanks for the update Cricket! :)

K-10 was a busy boy this morning.

Compliments of Chil Nest Observations.

Today's visit.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVohr17y_fI

There were some reports on the Chil Nest Observation Forum that both the left & right side of the nest were looking bad today. It does appear they are dealing with yet another hole towards the right.
