Neat video, beans. It was pretty crowded there with those big wings in the way!

It was a very awkward maneuver. If he had the fish in his right talon, it would have been easier. Has anyone noticed that he favors his right or his left talons for carrying the fish?

Video: Eaglet Sets Cam-sitting PR

video includes an exclusive interview:

Eagle Weekly: Say, that was some record! Were you scared being up so high?
Phoenix: no
Eagle Weekly: Is it true you went up at 5:37 AM and came down at 7:12 PM?
Phoenix: close enough
Eagle Weekly: How do you feel after that incredible PR?
Phoenix: hungry
Eagle Weekly: Folks have been asking, are you a he-eagle or a she-eagle. The public is dying to know!
Phoenix: (yawns)
Eagle Weekly: What will you do next? Jump up to the WA cam? The top of the tree? The Sidney nest? What will it be?
Phoenix: Get something to eat

VERY SAD NEWS ON OUR DEAR PHOENIX HORNBY. Our beautiful eaglelet would have fledged with in a week
"Hornby Eagles
Doug and Sheila
Carrick, the Hornby Eagle Group and friends, are shocked and saddened to report the sudden
collapse and death of our beloved Phoenix. A rescue effort was underway,
... but his decline was sudden and swift. "

From reading on both the Hancock forum & Doug & Shela's forum Phoenix had problem breathing yesterday after. May God send Phoenix to join Echo & others. I sit here with tears
From Hancock Forum from here Wed to present http://www.hancockwildlife.org/forum/viewtopic.php?showtopic=442&mode=&show=25&page=135

I am so sorry Pat...Hugs to you and all who follow the Hornby nest.
I read this info today:

"The administrators of the site, they will request a necropsy. Apparently there are other eagles
dying and it will help to find out why." :cryinggirl:

Phoenix's body is on its way to Deep Bay, BC, in a boat; the Mountainaire Avian Rescue Society (MARS) people will meet the tree climber there. If you would like to help MARS with the costs of the necropsy and related tests, please see their website http://wingbeats.info/ Thank you all for your outpouring of love and support for the Hornby eagles.
I don't know if you would want to see the hotspot for the removal of Phoenix so I won't put it in. I completely lost it when I watched

   It is just too sad. Beautifull Phoenix. Ma n Pa Hornby have this sad cloud over them once again. I cannot believe this. She was fledging. What could have happened? It is too sad to happen in this nest again. All that effort by Ma n Pa is gone. All their investment gone. A truly beautiful creature gone. Tears are streaming down my face as I write this. Not again, not this nest, not happening to Ma n Pa. It is too sad. Too sad...

Here are a few links from the Hancock forum
Hotspot for Phoenix, a girl, being removed from tree

I've been over reading the chat for a while. It seems boonibarb spent the night at the tree with Phoenix and she and winterwren were waiting for him when the climber came down with Phoenix. winterwren held Phoenix and booni did a lot of talking to her and feeling and petting. Doesn't that just break your heart? Sad Booni says Phoenix was just beautiful with the sharpest, blackest talons and beak and that the head feathers were tipped with white. His breast bone was very prominant and sharp so Phoenix hadn't eaten in a while. There was a boat waiting to take him to the rehab place-- (Mountainaire Avian Rescue Society or MARS) where the necropsy will be done. They will also find out if Phoenix was a boy or girl. Lots of tears here as I write this for you all!! Cry Cry I'm so glad that Phoenix was delivered into the arms of people who loved
You'll be crying here, I was
Boonibarb's video'=This is very graphic so please don't watch if it will upset you. The video is of Phoenix once she was lowered to the ground.

I'm so thankful that Phoenix was so lovingly and respectfully taken down out of her nest. Maybe her death will reveal something through the necropsy that will help save other sweet baby eaglets in the future. It will not be in vain, but nevertheless the loss is so very hard to take. :cryinggirl: My deepest sympathies to all those who followed this nest so closely.

I can't stress enough the importance of an exam by an experienced rehabilitator or veterinarian, followed by a necropsy. The fact that his breastbone was "prominent and sharp" tells us he wasn't eating enough for days, not just one day. Finding the cause of death is important for research. And yes, this research will help other eagles. Phoenix will tell us, after death, what he couldn't tell us when he was alive. He will not have died in vain. Perhaps this knowledge will comfort you. I think, in time, it will comfort me.

:beathrt: Wow, wonderful beans, thank you.

Phoenix was thin, so maybe something was working on
her this past week... :cryinggirl:
