The male is on the left and the female on the right. They usually roost at night
right in this immediate area.

Yes, I AGREE with Beth that a HUGE WELCOME :hi: is in order Jim and it appears from what I’m reading on everyone else’s posts, that the general consensus is that you are going to be a wonderful addition and be able to provide valuable first hand (and very detailed, might I add) knowledge of the nest site!

Also, what a SPECTACULAR picture of the adult male :thumbup ! I can’t believe they’ve been working on the nest for a couple of months already!

I enjoyed watching Virginia’s (Norfolk’s) Botanical Gardens site last year, but I’ve got a gut feeling/hunch that it’s going to be better than ever this year :sfthumbs:!

Again, WELCOME Jim :welcome ; you’re going to love this group and all the BCAW websites you wish to watch and/or can make time to watch. We can tell you from experience that the biggest “glitch”, is not having enough hours in the day to view all the great stuff that is out here!!!

Welcome Jim!! I'm so glad to see you here. Your photos are gorgeous! Congowings also joined the forum this month, so now we have a few Virginians here. I am in Richmond and work with CCB on the falcon cams. Libby posts here too.

The Norfolk pair are still my favorite raptors of all time. I've watched them for years, and I'm totally addicted. Steve Living tells me they are likely the most productive pair in Virginia, which is amazing considering how public the nest is. I visit occasionally, but its wonderful having you there to provide an on-going documentary of them.

Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful shots with us!

As a rehabber who uses the Wildlife Center frequently, I'm grateful to have all the support of all the photographers in Norfolk who donate their efforts to the cause.

Thanks again to everyone for the warm welcome. I was not at NBG yesterday
but I was told the eagles were bringing in sticks, etc from about 11:30 a.m. to about
12:30 - 1:00 o'clock. This morning they brought in a couple of sticks, sat outside the new
nest sqauking at eack other for a minute and headed out. It has been really cloudy here
the last two days so photography is not that good. By looking at the nest it appears to be taking
on more of a bowl shape. A friend told me she did not even know a eagle was in the nest yesterday
until he/she popped it's head out. The weather should be clearing Monday/Tuesday so I will see if a can get a good shot of the nest before the exclusion zone goes up on the 15th.

Thanks so much for that update, jim. Hope you can get some good shots tomorrow and Tuesday. Do you have any idea how much time it would take them to move the cameras to the new nest?

Susan, as of yet I don't have any solid info on the movement of the web cam. When
I get some information that I am confident with I will post it here.

So jim, what do you think about the exclusion zone? Will you be able to get any good photos?

The exclusion zone is pretty liberal and will allow for some good photography. Due to the many branches, etc that surround the new nest getting images of the activity in the nest will be a challenge that we are ready for.The webcam is being moved Dec 29th and will be in the same tree the new nest is in
and located above the nest! :-) Should be wonderful!! Both eagles spent this morning (while I was at work) bringing in more nest material for their new home. I will do my best to keep the info coming and I'm looking forward to sharing some images of these truely amazing eagles.

Jim

These images were taken on October 24th. of the male attempting
to handle some lumber for his new nest.

WOWEE! :banasan: Gorgeous pictures, Jim. Thanks for the update on the zone and the cam placement. It is sort of exciting to look forward to a different nest view of this pair and their expected family.

"attempting to handle some lumber"

Yesterday we had the most snow in 21 years as 14 inches of the
white stuff fell in very windy conditions. Last year the the NBG female
laid her eggs during a snow storm. It was amazing watching her roll them
around the snow filled nest to generate heat. The first born has a VDGIF purple tag
that reads NC. He currently soars around the Northern Neck of VA. This photo is
courtesy of Norfolk Botanical Garden and taken with the web cam yesterday as
this beautiful pair withstand the snow storm near the 2008 nest tree.
I'll be at NBG mid week to check things out!
Jim

Wow ... thanks for posting that Jim! I was looking up the details of the storm in Norfolk this morning. Lot of snow for you all! I hope you don't mind but I copied that picture over to the WOW forum as well! (with due credit, of course!)

Thanks for that update, Jim. Tomorrow is when they move the cam, isn't it? Unless the snow sets that job back. :snowflakewow:
