PLEASE START YOUR NEW POSTS HERE ~ 2011

Lucy and Larry's nest sits above a trout stream in a cotton wood tree, 60ft off the ground about 17 miles from the Mississippi River and close to the Black River in Blair, Wisconsin. The nest is monitored by students and their teacher, Mike Lawrence, at SoSET Charter School in the Blair-Taylor Elementary School.

Thank you kitten for suggesting a separate page for this cam. Update from the website,

"October 17, 2011 – Installation Day

Last summer we took the camera down to clean the lens and add a microphone. The microphone we got was not working, so we decided not to use it. Mr. Lawrence and our project partners put the camera above Lucy and Larry’s nest. Thank goodness Lucy and Larry were not home at the, time unlike last year when they were mad at us."

Awesome, Thanks Mick! As they make appearances and I am lucky enough to catch them in the act, I will add photos and video when I can. I teach with Mr. Lawrence and am a project partner. At least I would like to think I am. I did several videos last season and pictures. Here's to an exciting upcoming season!

I saw both this morning. One was just out of camera view. The other was about 1 mile away in one of their favorite trees. I can't wait for them to make a visit.

She came in today right before my first PT conference. How exciting! She was there for some time too.

The nest is not by our school. It is about 10 minutes away.

Google Earth

Sorry the close up was suppose to be bigger but the forum doesn't accept larger images. I kept having to downsize.

I'll try again. The closest nest is 634 yards. Google earth allows you to draw a line to measure distance. the further one is 1.3 miles. I was kind of surprised that it was actually that far. They have a long vantage point from that spot including their nest and flyway.

Image

I think I got it. Why the other was bigger I have no idea. I'll learn.
