This link will provide you with the new cam at VWC for the three eaglets.
What a wonderful new beginning for them
Susan, I am still visiting the Garden and always will as it is a beautiful place.
I was there today and saw no sign of Dad around the nest or any other area
where we know he used to perch. He was in the old camera tree yesterday
afternoon. I could not get there but I got a call he was there. The weather turned bad
so the people had to leave. I will be back in a little bit.

It must feel rather empty to go and not see the action to which you are accustomed, jim. Hugs to you. Thanks for checking in here and for the link.

Oh Wow!!!1
thanks Jim.
It is bittersweet but we can see them grow. It will be interesting to watch the difference, between the wild and here.

I hope you get to see Dad Jim. One of my bucket lists is visiting there

Hang in there.

Here they are in their new home at the Wildlife Center of Virginia. They have a new nest and plenty of fish.

Recorded at 7:15 PM local time

Music by Kevin MacLeod: Ranz des Vaches
I chose this piece because it is melodic and is about a yearning for home.

Read more about the music here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranz_des_Vaches

The Center is located in Waynesboro, Virginia. Read about it here:

Jim, do let us know if you see any sightings of Dad. I cannot imagine that he has left the area...
Beans, great video. Loved the music. I am soooo relaxed now!

My heart is not yet ready to witness the kids in captivity. I know it is the right thing for them, but it still breaks my heart and I cannot watch. They will be just fine . . . and I will imagine it . . . but I care not to watch.

Gigi and company, I will be sure to keep everyone updated on
any new information concerning Dad. I thought a tribute
photo taken March 7th 2011 would be nice! Thank you all
for everything!

Susan, I know it's difficult to see them in captivity. However, this is an excellent opportunity to learn about wildlife rehabilitation. And it is part of the eaglets' journey to fledge and freedom. When they are released back into the wild, they will be very healthy and perhaps parasite-free, too (there are some good meds for both external and internal parasites and all wildlife have them).

Watch and learn, my friend :loveheart:

Event to honor eagle's memory in Norfolk

NORFOLK

Native American drum group Four Rivers Drum will play a memorial concert Sunday in honor of the Norfolk Botanical Garden's female bald eagle that was killed Tuesday. The event will be 10:30 a.m. in the Matson Garden area at the garden, 6700 Azalea Garden Road.

The bird died after being struck by aircraft heading into the Norfolk International Airport. Three eaglets that remained in the nest were later moved by biologists to the Wildlife Center of Virginia. Scientists were concerned the male bald eagle would be unable to keep up with the baby birds' care.

During the ceremony, the first performance will be an "Eagle Calling Song" followed by memorial songs to the female eagle and other selections to honor the male eagle which still lives in the area.

"It seems appropriate that we as Native American people should pay honor to the eagle family that resided in our midst," event coordinator Vincent Schilling said in a news release. In Native American culture, the eagle is believed to be a messenger of prayers, the release said.

The event is open to the public and is included with garden admission. For info, visit http://www.norfolkbotanicalgarden.org

I wish I could be there for the ceremony. I hope someone is able to take a video and post it here for those of us who cannot go. Thanks for letting us know about it KF.

Boy, I thought they looked confused and sad in the new nest. What a shame this had to happen to them, lost their mom, their dad, and their home. Very sad situation. I'm glad they have each other but it didn't look like it was bringing them much comfort at the moment. They will have to adapt. I'm sure the folks there will do everything they can to help them.

Jim what an incredible tribute photograph. When I look at her in the photograph, I still can't wrap my head around what happened to her. But I guess that really doesn't matter. Thank you for the image.

And for the link.

Norfolk Botanic Gardens made this video. It is the last time the female was seen on the cam. In this video she has less than an hour to live. Don't watch if it will make you sad but I thought it should be here so it will be in BCAW archives.
