I didn't make a farewell video for Delta 2, but here's the video for the Delta O.W.L. nest:

The time has come to say goodbye to these eagles. Madam laid two eggs in 2009, but they failed to hatch (not uncommon for a young pair).

This nest was completely destroyed by wind in early 2010.
In September, David Hancock cleaned and refurbished the cameras and shored up the nest with reinforcing. Two more eggs were laid in Spring, 2011, but they, too, did not hatch. After the eagles stopped incubating the eggs, the cams were turned off.

We hope these loyal and persevering eagle pair will be successful in 2012.

Video: Camera Cleaning at the Delta O.W.L. Nest

For those of you who missed this (or would like to see it again), here’s the tree climber doing a thorough job of cleaning the camera lenses. We hope these loyal eagles raise two healthy eaglets next year!

It was funny seeing the man peering upside down in to the cam an he polishes the lens. That was a good catch!

Like the eagles, the raccoon must also hunt for food and find a place to raise her babies. Both the raccoon and the eagles must protect and feed their babies. If the eagles leave their eggs or eaglets unprotected, they become food for the mother raccoon and her babies.

Thanks for posting the YouTube version Coriena. The FB version kept stalling yesterday.

I keep playing the beginning over and over. Does this animal crawl up into the nest and she grabs it? That's what it looks like (or else she brought the prey to the nest edge and it started sliding over and she reacts and grabs it). I love her call. Really GREAT catch!!!
