Reese has posted a nice tribute to mom and a paper from Bryan Watts on the development stages of eagle chick growth in the Chesapeake Bay. It is an interesting read. The eaglets were at 90% of their full development when they were moved. http://eaglenest.blogs.wm.edu/

US Airways to make donation for eaglets' care
NORFOLK

According to a post on the US Airways Facebook page, the company will make a donation toward the care of the three eaglets whose mother was killed Tuesday by an airliner landing at Norfolk International Airport.

The post says that the US Airways Express aircraft, operated by Air Wisconsin, was unable to avoid the eagle, which nested at the Norfolk Botanical Garden, without risking the safety of passengers and crew.

Wildlife officials believe the female bald eagle was out looking for food for the young birds when it was struck by the plane. Scientists later moved the eaglets to the Wildlife Center of Virginia in Waynesboro due to concerns that the male bald eagle would not be able to feed them sufficiently.

The Native Americam band Four River Drum played this
morning in honor of Mom. What a extreme pleasure it was
and they are a wonderful group of people. The Bald Eagle
is their messenger to the spirit worldand they are held in the
highest regard, The crowd was pretty large. I believe
the first song is for calling in the eagle. Near the end of
the performance a juvenile eagle was 2000 feet up and it is dcocumented.

I am having trouble uploading video right now. Hope
to post more with a few pics in a while

Jim - How wonderful that you could be at NBG this morning and listen to the Native American band's songs, especially the one calling the eagle. And then to have an eagle fly overhead . . . it must have been awesome.

I look forward to seeing your video!

I tried for a long time to post more video with no success. We'll
go with some photos.

Needless to say it has been a extremely emotional week for all of us. Today
included. I want to say thank you to everyone at BCAW for your thoughts,
prayers and compassion. You are all incredible people. The Four River Drum leader
asked every person at the ceremony to place their hand on the nest tree before they
left and this will pass on postive energy to Dad and his three eaglets! Of course this happened.
God bless all of you!

Jim

I did not want to say anything until I got 100% confirmation, which I
did. A adult eagle did fly high over the Garden during the drumming.
Let's try video. First one is reaching out to the eagles.

This video represents giving the adult male strength
They invited the audience to come on up.

WOW...what a beautiful and touching ceremony, Jim...A great tribute to Mom...

when everyone was pointing up, was that when the eagle was spotted? (I think I heard someone say osprey, not sure)...I hope it was Dad...but, ya never know...it could have been mom...

I posted a link to this thread under "Breaking News" so others would be aware of your post.

I've been out for part of this afternoon, but will take time tomorrow to truly ingest the ceremony by the Native Americans which I expect to be fulfilling and emotional. I can't wait.

KF, thanks for posting that US Airways is taking responsibility for Mom's demise and the orphanage of these kids. My respect goes to them.

Thank you, Jim, for being there and being our eyes.

Thanks SGB. The pointing was an osprey. Today's sightings were a adult eagle, a juvenile and a few osprey. The adult and juvie were way, way up there. My wife and others saw the adult, (I was shooting video of Four River Drum) but I did get to see the juvie.

My thanks too, Jim for posting the touching pictures and videos of today's memorial. It is hard for me to put any words on here to show my feelings. And I am glad that USAir is going to do something, too.

Jim, thanks so much for sharing the ceremony with us. I was sorry to be missing it, but you did a great job of letting us know what it was like to be there. I don't remember any ceremony like this before for an animal, but it sure shows what she shared with all of us. Glad to see the male is still hanging around. And Reese reports that Camellia and Azalea have been at the same creek for the last day, crossing paths. Very nice news and timely.

Thank-you JIm for posting the video and pictures.

I cannot put into words the emotion I am feeling right now and I am sure it is more so for you and all that are have come and spent time with this pair.

that you saw and adult and a juvenile symbolizes to me ,mom Norfolk and all the young she has reared and a symbol that all will be well.

It is still numbing and unbelievable. What a week .

I hope you will all continue to visit the site.
