The kids have been a little more subdued today (so far). .but, R2 has discovered a new branch. .

He's also flying instead of using the nest to "trampoline" to the next branch

shhhsshh. don't tell. i keep forgetting about this tread. some pxs taken on the 8th. Both R1 and R2 are on the wing. R1 needs more practice "landing". She pretty much literally bounces into the tree.
R2 is rather graceful for a guy--even a eagle guy!! :ohyes:

IMO R2 is on the left in both captures (little inside joke there :teehee: )

Just letting everyone know that Friday (6/15) will be the end of the 2012 season for the cam. .Last day for chat and the cam will be turned off.

Both kids are flying great and aren't spending alot of time in the nest at this point. I will try to get back here and post videos/pics I have amassed over the past few days. .

It has been a great ride with the Richmond eagle family. What a wonder to watch them grow and fledge. Soar high and roam free R1 and R2.

Once again, thank-you to all who made this journey possible. It was well worth the ride and I am so glad that it all turned out for this family.

when you dare to care, all is a better place :egg17: :egg17: .

Facebook update
We've confirmed there is a new nest being built on the river within the breeding territory of the Richmond Eagles. This is a location they where they bred in the 1990s and is close to their main foraging areas. It's natural for eagles to move between nest trees over time. During the annual Virginia eagle nest survey we document many pairs that have established new nests. We'll continue to keep an eye on this new nest (and the old one) and see where the pair settle for the upcoming breeding season. Thank you to Clinton Small for sharing this photo of the nest.

CCB Richmond Eagle Nest Camera::: Regarding the new Richmond nest, it is on an island and we will not be able to film if they settle there for the season. Just not technically feasible

Among the eagles: deadbeat dads, nest intrusions and cheating wives
by Lillian Stevens | November 19, 2012
Researchers from the Center for Conservation Biology (CCB) are studying the Richmond nest—and others—via strategically placed video cameras. They are observing the birds’ interactions and behaviors, and an interesting story unfolds as the eagles star in their own reality show.
