It looks like the 3 chicks are close to fledging...perhaps they'll do it this weekend.

This picture is from yesterday, but already they're up at the nest entrance surveying the outside world.

It's an empty nest now. The 3 chicks were there this morning, but all 3 have fledged now! I hope they enjoy their new-found freedom.

Oh my, the Nebraska kestrels sure are climbing the walls now! Thanks for the great captures, KF.

I just checked the nest to see if any of the chicks fledged, but it's still too dark there to tell. I bet we'll have at least one or two fledges today!

Thanks, Beth, for the news that all the Nebraska kestrels have fledged...I'll really miss seeing the cute chicks here! (But then maybe the parents will raise another clutch like last year!)

Pawnee Kestrels

I just checked the nest and no one's home - all the chicks have fledged! I will miss all of our American kestrel chicks. :-(

How about those Pawnee kestrels? KF - I wouldn't have believed there were 4 kestrels in the nest if I hadn't seen your picture! I'd been seeing one or two adults hanging out there ever since the kids fledged, but seeing four in the nest has me wondering now: Have two of the kids moved back home or just stopped by to visit? Is this another pair of kestrels on a visit to the original pair of kestrels?

In any event, it looks as if all the kestrels are getting along well. But it sure is puzzling to see! :?
