Hello Everyone..
I am passing on this beautiful story which stirred up memories of Koo. "If only"--I thought...
Enjoy the photos, but they can't be used without permission from the Center.

That's odd  Why would they use a pic of a White-tailed Sea Eagle on an Osprey cam? Well I guess it's not that surprising considering who's in charge of the cam

Beth, thanks for catching that!

JAZZEL ;)

The white-tailed sea eagles have often been visiting the osprey nests after the ospreys have migrated, so it isn´t actually that strange. In the website of the Hailuoto webcam there are a lot of pictures from the nest to be seen, when you choose the option Season´s images to the left of the page.

Jazzel - thanks for posting story about Freedom - first read for me! Wonderful and heartwarming. No "what ifs" here. Each case is different, and we KNOW our KOO is now in her happy hunting ground, free of deformity and discomfort.

I think of KOO often - and how special she was to so many, many people. Her spirit and determination were her gifts to us - and these gifts are irreplaceable.

Amen to that! This brave little bird will live forever, in the hearts and minds of thousands of people. Her short life did have a great impact and meaning and therefore was not waisted.

Thank shshen for posting the story about Freedom...It was not my post (thanks again shshen :D).

This is how we do it, expect it to be done, KOO deserved nothing less (I will never forget how that little osprey was exploited.) For all that missed out the first time 07/07 & 07/08.....click on the pics.

AME on the Looduskalender forum posted this report on the status of Koo's autopsy.

"in the Saaristomeri discussion page there is now the reply by the person who has connections to people at the Biological Museum of the University of Oulu, written on September 25th. she/he has called her/his contact person at the Museum and has heard that Koo's body is there in the icebox waiting. they have a lot of work there (lots of dead animals to study) but it will be Koo's turn in due course. it will not be forgotten or wiped under the carpet. we'll just have to wait patiently"

Looduskalender forum member OLGA just posted this.

"About Koo: There is now in saaristomeri some news of the autopsy of Koo.

http://www.saaristomeri.info/keskustelu ... e_id=55374

The nickname 'Hei' has in telephone got to know, that Koo was examined last week. later there will some more examinations, perhaps.

I'll put here first the news in Finnish, and just a bit later to translate it in English - eventually there is not much 'new' information. The leg was broken between the ankle and leg and the rest of the feet had turned 180 degrees. There was still seen traces of inflammation. The muscles were deminished due to the lack of motion and hunger."

I hope she gets the english posted soon!

Hi
So sad to hear that Koo had a broken leg but was it caused by the bander? I guess that is a lingering question on everyone's mind.
Thanks Jazzel for the post. Anxious to hear more.

Olga on looduskalender just posted this translation.

"Translation with help of google:

Hello, friends of Koo!
Two weeks have gone fast. The telephone discussion revealed that
- Koo has not been stuffed
- one wing and part of the tail have been saved - and bones
- on the injured bone was still seen traces of infeccion
- the foot was broken between the leg and ankle, it turned 180 decrees so that the toes were in a wrong position, backwords.
- the throughout examitation of the remainings were not done this time, but it will happen later when it appears need to know more
- these kind of injuries are unusual, but some cases like this there has been
- the muscles were deminished be cause of lack of motion
- this was why at last the bird had to 'jump' flying without help of feet
- the bird was malnurished
- several persons researched the bird but the genre is still not known.

sad, so sad.."
