I don't know...2 in the nest now...1 lying down..I'm guessing maybe the injured one? I guess hunting could depend on what kind of function he has with that foot...can he grasp or clutch? We've seen pictures of ospreys making a "one foot" fish grab...so I guess its possible, tho' not ideal..I just wish the "lounger" would stand up...for all I know, the one that's out of the nest could be our little injured guy...

Here's our little "injured" guy....He did quite a bit of "flapping"...but it doesn't appear that he has any use with that leg..bummer...it stayed in this position during all his flapping pics...but when food was delivered...he jumped right in there!!!

Good morning Everybody!

They are the guilty for putting back the injured eaglet into the nest.

Ringing Centre's staff - Finland

We - Birdwatcher forum from Hungary - wrote a protester letter to them. We are cuorius to know wheter they will answer it, and what will be the answer.

Remeber! Last year an injured eaglet stayed in the nest too, and a big eagle came and did his job.
We won't watch it again in live pictures.

:welcome Welcome to the forum, macko50!

Yes, it is hard to believe that they actually put the injured osprey chick back into the nest at banding time when they were aware of its badly injured leg. I don't understand why they couldn't remove it from the nest for treatment then, and I'm still hoping that the chick will be able to fledge and survive on its own . . . but I'm not sure how realistic that is.

Thank you for writing the protest letter on behalf of the Birdwatcher forum from Hungary! And thank you for the links to your forum and to the Ringing Centre's staff in Finland. I hope that if you get a response from the Centre that you'll post it here.

Thanks again!

:upwave: Hi macko50 and Welcome!!

Thank you for writing the letter!
I was so upset after the banding news that I haven't
been watching this nest...
Last year a chick died at this nest
(Golden ?) Eagle attack and the chick wasn't
injured...

Hello Everyone. I was so encouraged to see Mako50's post today with the Museum link. I had been searching for a wildlife type official or government agency. I ended up sending a letter to BirdLife.fi, & now I will send to this new site. I wish someone in authority could just explain to the public somewhere (Nest News on cam?) what the policies are regarding injured ospreys.I did see some laws listed on a foreign forum. Sorry to say, but we probably already know the mindset. Last year's chick sat for about 3 days with that droopy/broken wing that all could see & was never rescued.
I've heard that ospreys do not do well in captivity except for a short time. However, a rehabber that just released some where I work, does have one that's docile. Another rehabber had to keep one for a whole year, so it's not impossible.
Sorry so many words. I would also like to post some pictures----will do on another post.

God Bless All His Creatures

Dear members of this forum!

The Hungarian Birdwatchers Forum sent this letter to the finnish ringing centre :

"Dear Heikki Lokki!

We are watching nests around the world, nests in Finland as well.

We believe that the broken-legged chick should not have been ring and replace into a nest of the osprey in Hailuoto.

"Perhaps with the ringing want to know the Finnish bird experts, whether how long endure, and when and where the chick will pass away" - asked someone from the Bird Cams Around The World Forum.
Each forum is unanimous in its opinion as the youngster should have been in hospital taken, and if any intervention seemed hopeless, it would have been euthanasia solution, and not to extend the suffering under the very eyes of the whole world.

The forum and all the other bird loving people condemned this inhuman decision. We ask you to quickly find a solution, which is also a solution for a small eagle. We hope that it will not be repeated in the last case, that is, the eagle came and consumed the chick by the sight of hundreds of thousands of shocked spectators.

And also a picture from another troubled nest of osprey in Nauvo. This ring is not correct, and is hurting the other leg.

We place trust in your very urgent steps.

Hungarian Birdwatchers Forum"

We hope they will do something for the injured eaglet befor it will be late.

You know, it's a very bad ringing. Schouldn't be an overhang part on the ring at all :(

Thank you Macko for sending the letter ...
I wish they would try and help this bird or turn off the cam
so we can't see the struggle he is having :(
What will he do when the parents leave and
can't feed him ...

Sorry, NatureNut, you will need to upload your photo to PhotoBucket first, then paste the IMG code it generates into your post here. If you need additional help, feel free to send me or Jazzel26 a PM.

Dear Friends, I sent my osprey opinion and question letter to 3 addresses at Finnish Museum. This morning I had 2 replies-----one from the Museum and one from BirdLife. Both said the same thing----letters should be forwarded to the Webmaster at camera co.!!!!!! studio.v@pulkkinen.inet.fi Forgive me, but when did they become scientists???? I did request that Someone should post policy Somewhere accessible to the worldwide public, perhaps Nest News. We shall see.

On a touching note & since I can't load pictures yet, I will relate an incident seen and sent to me by a friend. She is up very early in the AM and checks the nest. On Friday, the mother osprey had brought in a fish & all chicks were there, Koo, as usual, laying down. Big Sister picked up the fish and GAVE it to Koo!! She got up and started eating her breakfast! At the time I thought the birds are more humane than the humans!

I do, too, & I agree that at times birds are more humane than humans!
