thanks for the pic, Jazzel...and I bet you are right, beth...I've had the cam open for quite a while and haven't seen her get up once...(no visitors either)...talk about your "exposed" nest...

I am making a little video of some screenshots I took just now. Looks like egg-rolling to me . . .
Could you please give me some background info on this nest / webcam?
I googled "Shandy Point" but Google wants to direct me to "Sandy Point" in North Carolina . . . :roll:

I saw the egg rolling too, DEF...and I'm not sure, but she may have laid it prior to the rolling...She's calm now, but prior to the "rolling", she was moving around alot..I was gonna make a video of the rolling, but I'll wait to see yours...

I have one prior to that...I'll upload in a few...I'll see if I can find out something about the nest..

Thanks DEF!!! (I haven't watched it yet)...BUT...if you caught the "egg rolling" sequence, then this video is prior to that...obviously, its choppy...since I speeded it up...

(she's off the nest now...and I can't see a darn thing)

I emailed Rob Bierregaard about the GHO on the Osprey nest. I asked him if there would be a nasty fight when the Ospreys return, or will they look for a new nest site. His reply.

"Pretty safe bet that they'll look for a new location. NOBODY messes with Great-horned Owls."

According to the main webpage, they returned in March of last year....Laid their first egg the first week of April...I don't think there is any way the GHO will be out of there in time....YIKES...

This is just too weird. I thought owls only nested 'inside' ... inside trees or owl boxes, etc. She's right out in the open ... in New York .... in January .... with eggs!! :wildman:

Nest Site

Extraordinarily variable; wider range of nest sites than any other bird in the Americas (Baumgartner 1938). Most commonly uses tree nests of other species in whatever tree is available, but also uses cavities in trees and snags, cliffs, deserted buildings, and artificial platforms, and will lay eggs on the ground.

Also, Shandy Point is in Wilmington, NC.
