Beth...I've been watching and QuickTime recording this nest for the past two days, along with WHOI and Cape Henlopen.

Both the male and female have been on and off the nest...what I find somewhat different here is I haven't seen the male take over incubation...or bring in fish for her...but I do need to go over the screen recordings (FFX8) still takes time :eastergirl: I've seen, as you posted, the eggs left un-attended today, not typical behavior for a nest with hatching eggs.

Also, huge for me is, I can see only two eggs. As far as I know there were 3!!! I checked the nest at day 34 and only saw 2, but then.. as you know sometimes I see 4 and it turns out to be 3, or maybe now I'm seeing 2, and 3 is there somewhere????

I do believe this nest had 3 eggs, I'm going back over my pics...

I do have in my notes that the first egg laid was left uncovered for long periods, and would not be surprised if it didn't hatch....however I didn't expect it to disappear.

We can only, wait, see and learn.

JAZZEL :?

Thanks for the update on the PC nest Jazzel. I was really thinking the mate had been hurt and
the mom was trying to doing everything...Hunt, sit on the eggs and protect the nest.

Edited-I think we have only 2 eggs...

Beth :eastergirl:good we finally have a hatch here....I haven't seen the male today....but then, I haven't checked the nest more than twice today....but I do know the male spends a lot of time on the nest....because I have QuickTime screen recordings of this nest..

Posting on nests that are MISC..get lost...If this nest is interesting to forum members....as it to me, because of it's location and live cam..it should have it's own topic...not my call.

I do wonder about only two eggs, and I do know from my nest notes... the first egg was left uncovered for long periods and would not be surprised for a no hatch. Just wonder why only two eggs....

Agree with Jazzel - great cam view, interesting location, and two adorable chicks!

Yes, Mary...and sadly in the direct landfall path of THE OIL SPILL

I hope the ospreys in this area fish on inland ponds...not that it will, in the end, matter. This is a huge, more than I can comprehend, disaster.

I wish we could rescue those chicks and place them in safe nests, but they are two chicks, in one of hundreds of nests....and the osprey (as much as I love them) are just a speck in this disaster.

ONE DIVE BY A MALE INTO AN OIL SLICK IS THE END OF HIS NEST....THIS WOULD BE FOLLOWED BY THE FEMALE DOING THE SAME TO FEED HERSELF...the end!!!

I do believe, hard as it is, we should watch and document the outcome...

I understand there's a huge economic impact for humans....but nothing to compare to the environmental impact.

JAZZEL

I am so with you, Jazzel. As well, concerned, frightened and rabidly angry at the entire situation...so needless. I could go on and on, but no need.

If interested, the link below is to an interactive map where one can see the extent and "progress" of the spill from 4/22 to present. Updated daily.
