Name the Osprey Contest results

Nova Scotia Power and the Museum of Natural History are pleased to announce that after an online public vote, OspreyCam fans have chosen to name Ethel and Oscar’s 2011 offspring Hunter and Fisher, which received 52% of the vote. A total of 2333 votes were cast from throughout Nova Scotia, Canada, and the United States.

SAD NEWS TODAY
OspreyCam juvenile believed dead

Today August 11, 2011, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) concluded that a dead osprey found within the vicinity of the OspreyCam nest is most likely one of the two juveniles that hatched this past June.

Since 2008, the Museum of Natural History, in partnership with Nova Scotia Power, has hosted the OspreyCam, providing a live feed of an osprey nest in Nova Scotia. Two days ago, one of the juveniles appeared to be missing and DNR believes that the animal most likely fell from the nest.

While unfortunate, DNR reports three to four similar cases every year and this development is simply a reality of nature. The Osprey Cam will continue to be available until the remaining juvenile leaves the nest.
