Hi MaryG

Thanks for you thoughts. I laud the pair for continuing to incubate the eggs.

I do wonder if Lady will "feel" a sense of loss, once she determines that the eggs will not hatch????

Like you said, she has traveled so far and she deserves to have at least one :egghatch: this year.

Just visited the site. It must be about 850p (UK time). 7Y just flew in with a half eaten fish. Lady got up but was a bit slow in getting over to retrieve it. I'm guessing she may not be very hungry right now but was grateful for the fish.

It was really touching to see 7Y trying to feed her before Lady took the fish and flew off.
7Y is quite amazing!! He is incubating the eggs. . .

7Y and Lady continue to incubate the eggs.

Wind is a bit gusty this morning, but Lady is comfortably nested

Just read the LoL blog dated the 7th. They feel it is unlikely that the eggs will hatch.

Maybe this is Lady's time to enjoy her summer at the Loch!! I'll be looking forward to seeing her and 7Y again next year.

We are so blessed to see this legendary osprey and her awesome mate (7Y) again!

The pair continue to take turns at incubating.

Does anyone know why 7Y fish deliveries are getting less and less??

Yes, this is a failed nest, it may be the result of Lady's age, the bad weather, or a combination of both.

7Y, has no reason to deliver fish, Lady can and will fish for herself. Failed nests are hard to observe. They will stop incubating. Then, one or both may defend the nest until migrating.

Hi Jazzel26

I noticed that Lady's feathers on her back seem to be more mottled and her necklace a bit darker.
Does feather coloration change with age of the osprey?

Feathers, as far as I know, don't change with age. Feathers do change from environmental and many other issues. You didn't post a pic to compare. The likely reason for a change in Lady's feathers is molting. Female ospreys molt in the summer, while on the nest, males molt in the winter. Males need good feathers when they return from migration, females do not. Nature is great!!! Roy Dennis observed this molting timing...get the book...A life of Ospreys..

Hi Jazzel

Thanks for your reply

It has been a couple days since I last viewed the nest. Are the eggs gone or is it camouflaged by the clump of moss (?). It looks like Lady standing at the 12 o clock position of the nest...she is almost out of view.

Still feel a bit sad that the nest has failed. It is a good "vacation" for Lady and I am hopeful that she will return in 2012 along with 7Y and have a successful nest :loveshow:

Have a wonderful 4th!!

I guess I was correct that the eggs were camouflaged by moss. Hope they find out why the eggs were not viable ones.

July 7, 2011 post on LoL blog:

Events at the nest today:

[ithe eggs. This was done so quickly we had to re-run the footage about six times to make sure we had observed correctly.

We therefore took the decision to send a qualified tree climbing staff member up the tree to investigate.

As we did not want to cause a lot of disturbance to the ospreys we timed our retrieval of the eggs when they were off the nest, after a bit of searching he found and retrieved the eggs from the nest.

The eggs will now be sent for analysis to see what we can find out from them. As soon as we have any definite news we will let you know.

Thanks shshen,
Sad that they didn't hatch but the way nests have been going it might have been better than to hatch and die

I absolutely agree with you...no hatch is a much better way...

Too many nests with chicks being born and not surviving.

7.12.11 (926amUK time) Ahhh, Lady is sitting at the 12 o clock edge of the nest, facing outward--possibly enjoying the view. Her feathers look a bit disheveled--possibly from the wind and the wet weather today.

There is something like a partially opened cylinder/sleeve with serrated edges that is flapping in the wind, appearing/disappearing on the left side of the screen. I hope someone can take it down before it flies into one of the pair (if they are on the nest at that time).

Lady is mantling her wings (930a), apparently sighting a possible intruder. Weather conditions look bad today. Hope it will clear up soon. (932a) Lady flies off to the left.

7.12.11 (1118amUK)...Looks like the weather has turned for the better. Lady is back at the nest at the same 12 o clock spot, preening herself. Gusty winds creating a new feather-do for Lady. Looks like a mohawk headdress.

That piece of metal(?) is now waving across the entire lens of the cam--it seems to be working itself loose.
It reminds me of the nose of a sawtooth shark :-)

7.16.11 (1218pmUK) Lady flew in followed by 7Y who mated with her; then took off.
Lady is standing at the 3 o clock side of the nest, enjoying the warm sun of the day.

Cam zoomed in to get a closer look at her. She appears to look great with nice feathering
