the male at smith mountain is feeding the female a fish right now. I wonder if this behavior is actually more common than people might think.

male recently brought another fish, must have been pretty small. He ate some and fed the female some and she finished it. I'm guessing she's off to find a bigger fish herself while the male sits on the eggs.

Mom seems to be sitting "high" on the eggs - instead of being snugged down on them centered on the egg cup it appears they are just under her breast and she's just barely covering them. She has also been doing a fair mount of rising up off the eggs and checking on them. A sign that maybe someone is "pipping" (ie, imminent hatch)?

It has also afforded a clear view of three eggs.

Sandpoint Osprey have 2 eggs now
May 14th 2012
For those who may have missed it: Our osprey pair produced a second egg on Friday morning. Since the second egg’s arrival through today, the pair has been incubating their eggs quite faithfully. Also, individuals who were at Memorial Field for much of Saturday report that at the second nesting platform across the field, another osprey pair were observed bringing in a good number of branches and nesting materials.

The video below is not about any particular nest but about osprey hunting fish. In my opinion very interesting!

KITTEN, is this an archived video? If not, extremely unusual to have both adult ospreys on a nest this late in the season....also female still on the nest feeding nestlings/juvies :think

Can you confirm nesting dates? This is very late in the season, assuming this is the Hog Island, ME nest.Has this nest fledged any young, or are they all pre-fledge?

I have a very late nest, first hatch approximately 7/1, first fledge 8/24. The female is not feeding juvies, the male is dropping off fish.

So odd, but never know :help:

They sure have a lot of fish, great male :teehee:
