Dyfi Osprey Project:

"The weather on the Dyfi is rather gloomy this morning, Nora is incubating, Monty has probably gone fishing.
He did bring back a fish for Nora late on yesterday, although we suspect he may have had a sneaky one himself earlier in the day!

Interestingly, Nora is still allowing Monty to mate with her despite now having laid three eggs - the usual clutch size for ospreys.
Might we see four eggs laid this year?"

Wow - Such fabulous pictures of the Estonia and Dyfi ospreys. They're really breathtaking!

Dyfi Osprey Project:

We're one third of the way through our 24hr surveillance shifts, thanks to all that have given their time to date, and indeed those who are about to.

Here's today's 'Monday Moan'. Osprey eggs are robbed every year. Recent changes in the law mean that egg thieves can now be sent to prison, indeed many are. Some have been jailed many times, over and over and over. Some have been given ASBOs and some even have warrants out for their arrest at this very minute. One of the most prolific is Matthew Gonshaw, over decades he had illegally taken thousands of eggs, seriously affecting the populations of many rare bird species in the UK.

Here's a BBC news article about him.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6K_CoQcadjE

These egg collectors are usually banged up over the autumn and winter months. October, November, December….. Really? Would you put a Christmas robber in jail in July?

Egg collectors must be laughing their head torches off tucking into their free Christmas dinner awaiting their release just in time for the forthcoming egg laying season. There must be something we can do about this. All of us, together.

Another feature on egg protection next Monday; here's an image of Nora taken at something past silly this morning. Three eggs present and correct.

Thanks, Ferenz. I'm hooked on Estonia Cams #1 and #2.

Can you give me this season's history or direct me to where I can find it? Appears #2 nest still (???) empty and #1 no eggs, yet (???).
