The video shows you how long their legs are! Bird legs are always longer than they appear, as the top part of their leg is covered by feathers.

Hi!! Just an update that the starr pair are mating like crazy since the babies left the nest. Maybe a second clutch is coming. Observers there have said that their behavior is different this time than after the clutch last season so they might double clutch--just like truck drivers :loveshow:

And so they did and the female is now incubating a clutch of 4.

WE now have two Owls hatched at Star Ranch. Momma was tending to her newest as she stood above them as of 10am Pac Time :thumbegg:

:egghatch: :egghatch:

Harvested from the Starr Ranch forum, you can see the older and newly hatched

Congratulations on round #2!

I was just with some Virginia biologists yesterday talking about the need to learn more about our barn owl population. They seem to be getting harder to find.

They may already know of the starr ranch but the forum and the history of these happy hooters might be a good resource to direct them to. They seem to be doing a great job with the happy owls who have lived at the nest site

So it would seem! Plus they have a pretty good survival rate at Starr.

I think Barn Owls do better in a "natural nest" than they do in a nest box.

Geezz, I really dropped out here at the beginning of summer. I have a few pics of the 2nd clutch at Starr Ranch. I didn't actually keep up with them full through fledging, but ... Here's a few more pics of them anyway. Before we know it they'll be nesting again!
