Eh, well, I did, since 2 years, but they never had a nest. We did see owls in there from time to time, though.

Syrian boy catches Israeli barn owl and sets it free
By JUDY SIEGEL-ITZKOVICH

Owl, raised in a joint government-Tel Aviv University project, had an identifying ring; boy posts find in online birdwatching forum.

Interesting news, gives hope - but it's not yet time for future joint birding projects with Syria ....
The last line of the article
Quote:
"The Israelis did not contact the boy because they feared that if the authorities learned of the connection, he would be in danger"
is very telling ... (for fear of something a la what happenend last month to the Iranian weightlifter who got banned from sports for life (!) for standing on the winners' platform next to an Israeli when the medals were handed out ... ).

On another note: it may seem strange Barn Owls would attack and eat pigeons, but I have followed this nest lately and if you see what has entered the nest as fars as birds (as prey) - sure the nearby pigeons must have suffered some decline! Just look at the collected feathers (could easily compete with Cobb's Peregrines  !)

Oops - seems I had given up too early in the season this year to watch this cam! I just read they did have a nest and 1rst egg was laid May 28, nr. of eggs unknown, June 30 first hatch, total of 4 eggs hatched and 4 owlets fledged.
Sept. 25 a new nestbox was installed, with inside and outside webcam. Three days later an owl visited the new box. Oct 3 - a ringed and an unringed owl bond inside the box - the nestbox owners assume it's the same pair as before. On Oct 6, they roosted in the nestbox from 3 PM till dark and from then on, every day they spend time together in the nestbox in the daytime (just like we saw both Owls in Uden/Mariaheide - but that webcam is not in good shape - a new pc is due sometime, I heard).

Found somemore barn Owl nests I think its like 3 different nests not sure
of to much more except they are just getting started for camerasfrom what I have read this is a little more about it
The Broxton Barn Owl Group covers most of the West side of Cheshire.
It was established over 7 years ago and has made extensive use of "Pole Nest Boxes"
with a good degree of success.

Thanks, Kitten! Maybe if barn owls like pole nests so much, some barn owls will take up residence at the Alcoa nestbox!

That Kestrel has been there off and on for a couple weeks now I just haven't been
able to get a good pic of it. It just won't cooperate for me.
