:eastergirl: Was too tired last night to post these, but here are some updated pics of the Leesville Barred Owlets, Hoot, Toot, & Tiny. Look at their face markings, they are so adorable even at this size LOL

Kittenface, my ringtone is a female barred owl call :egg 19:

Bosuil, thanks for the videos, GREEEEAAAAATT!

Image
Aren't they just adorable?

These cuties make the cutest noises, and it is wonderful to hear mom yelling for pa's food delivery. Like
the barn owl, she has a special call to ring the dinner bell for the little ones too, sooooo cute!

I'm watching the Beleef de lente Steenuil owls. It's raining right now and both mom & pop are just in the entryway (not the porch, they are inside). One is grooming the other. The one getting groomed is making sweet little noises.. So cute. I love watching these guys.

Thanks a lot for the snapshots of the little Barred Owls, LeeLee - "conga line" ;-) !
A week on now, they must have grown tremendously. I see a nice video "Three in line" of the 14th on the Ustream-site, but no later ones and the channel is off line now.

As for the Dutch Tawnies, they have also grown a lot. They have their eyes open now. Clip (not made by me) of one owlet trying to devour a mouse tail first :

and getting it nicked by a sibling:

If the chicks in these nests survive, they're well-equipped for the outside world :egg9:

:eastergirl: hi there Bosuil! Here is a picture of them huddled together napping, awaiting sunset and a delivery from one of the parents LOL. Tuesday I think Hoot the oldest, turns a month old and should climb out the box and onto the branch either tuesday or wednesday! So this weekend is the last chance to get some good views of him before then!

Cant believe he is that old now, but soooooo glad they are all healthy, growing, and so adorable. Will try to watch them these final days before the time closes.

Hoot looks at us, notice his dark feathers compared to the others fuzzy look
His head and beak appear larger also :girlluv:

Dutch Tawnies in their nestbox have hardly space for their large wings:

Image

Since several days, the oldest chick goes up to the entrance hole to look outside and await the first prey.

Yesterday, he received the first mouse of the evening while he was there:

This evening, he sits there for about half an hour. A sibling joins him, goes down again and the oldest goes down as well, but back up in a few minutes and
at one point, he almost drops down:

Video clip made by nestbox owner Leo Ceelen

He sat there for almost 45 min.! Of course, the first mouse arrived a little after that ;-)

Right now, the same chick is outside in the entrance again.

Owlet has fallen asleep while sitting in the entrance hole, parent arrives with prey but he isn't hungry, nor lets parent pass by to feed his siblings ...

Beleef De Lente - Little Owls.

:tissue:

One egg hatched 5/25.

Dad disappeared around the same time.

Mom is currently trying to feed herself and the chick, but doesn't sound like they hold much hope.

Very sad.

I've always enjoyed watching the little owls.

I agree Kitten. I checked in today, after not looking for a week or two and found the updates. Not what I expected at all. Poor Mom. Poor Baby. Poor Dad.

:egg5: :egg5: :egg5: Dad just showed up as I type this. It has to be him. Everyone is out of themselves of hapiness. And so is mom-owl. He brought several feedings already. He must have been stuck somewhere, in a shed or something like that. He looks a bit thin, but he is fine.
I'm sorry that I don't know how to make caps of live-cams, otherwise I would have. But you can see it all happen op beleefdelente.nl, than Steenuil

A clip was posted on the BDL site with a Barn Owl visiting the nestbox. The slow motion version is here - the first owl that literally flies the Barn Owl off the ledge is possibly a Little Owl (the male?). Then the Barn Owl is chased away again by another (larger) Owl (the Tawny Owl that was heard various times?)- all happened at local time just after midnight, i.e. a day ago.

Now the male returned (after 60+ hours of absence) and resumed feeding as if nothing ever happend. Surprising change of events!

I couldn't bring myself to look at the cam, afraid of what I'd find. I just saw Dad has returned. I'm so happy. I don't know why I didn't see the post here, but so glad that baby is still with us and Dad is back.

Now, hopefully the other owl who has been visiting will get lost!
